STILL HUMAN!

 

“Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”

                 1 Corinthians 10:31

 

The great marvel of the Incarnation slips into ordinary childhood’s life; the great marvel of the Transfiguration vanishes in the devil-possessed valley; the glory of the Resurrection descends into a breakfast on the sea-shore. This is not an anti-climax, but a great revelation of God.

The tendency is to look for the marvelous in our experience; we mistake the sense of the heroic for being heroes. It is one thing to go through a crisis grandly, but another thing to go through every day glorifying God when there is no witness, no limelight, no one paying the remotest attention to us. If we do not want medieval haloes, we want something that will make people say-What a wonderful man of prayer he is! What a pious devoted woman she is! If you are rightly devoted to the Lord Jesus, you have reached the sublime height where no one ever thinks of noticing you, all that is noticed is that the power of God comes through you all the time.

Oh, I have had a wonderful call from God! It takes Almighty God Incarnate in us to do the meanest duty to the glory of God. It takes God’s Spirit in us to make us so absolutely humanly His that we are utterly unnoticeable. The test of the life of a saint is not success, but faithfulness in human life as it actually is. We will set up success in Christian work as the aim; the aim is to manifest the glory of God in human life, to live the life hid with Christ in God in human conditions. Our human relationships are the actual conditions in which the ideal life of God is to be exhibited.

 

Lord, the word that strikes me so intimately in my reading

this morning is this-“Thus did Moses; as the Lord commanded

him, so did he.”.

여전히 인간적인!

 

“무엇을 하든지 다 하나님의 영광을 위하여 하라.”

                                                     고린도전서 10:31

 

성육신의 위대한 경이는 유년시절의 평범한 생활로 빠져버립니다. 변화산상에서 주님의 거룩함을 보여주는 변모의 위대한 경이는 귀신에 붙잡힌 골짜기에서 사라집니다. 부활의 영광은 해변에서의 아침 식사로 몸을 낮추어 내려가십니다. 이것은 비참한 결말이 아니고, 하나님의 위대한 계시입니다.

우리의 경험 가운데서 경탄할 만한 것을 찾는 경향이 있습니다. 영웅다운 느낌과 영웅이 된 것을 혼동합니다. 위기를 멋지게 통과하는 것과, 목격자도 없고 조명도 없고 어느 누구의 미미한 주의조차도 끌지 못하는 곳에서 매일 하나님을 영화롭게 하며 지내는 것은 다른 것입니다. 만약 우리가 중세시대의 후광을 원하지 않는다면, 사람들이 다음과 같이 말하도록 만들 무엇인가를 우리는 원합니다-즉, ‘그 사람은 훌륭한 기도의 사람이야! 그 여자는 정말로 경건하고 헌신적인 분이셔!’ 만일 당신이 주 예수님께 올바로 헌신되어 있다면 아무도 당신을 상대할 생각 조차 못하는 숭고한 절정에 당신이 도달한 것입니다. 이때 사람들의 눈에 띄는 모든 것은 언제나 당신을 통해 나타나는 하나님의 능력입니다.

오, 나는 하나님으로부터 위대한 부르심을 받았습니다! 하나님의 영광을 위해 가장 비천한 의무를 다하기 위해서는 우리 안에 계신 전능하신 성육신 하나님이 필요합니다. 우리 안에 계시는 성령님은 완전히 인간답게 우리를 주님의 것으로 만드셔서 우리들을 사람들의 눈에 띄지 않게 하십니다. 성도의 삶의 평가는 성공이 아니고, 현실적인 인간의 삶에서의 성실성입니다. 우리는 크리스천 사역에서의 성공을 목표로 삼을 것입니다. 이 목표는 인간의 삶을 통하여 하나님의 영광을 분명하게 드러내야 합니다. 이는 평범한 인간적인 조건 속에서 하나님 안에 감추어진 생명으로 그리스도와 함께 살아가야 함을 의미합니다. 우리의 모든 인간 관계는 하나님의 이상적인 생명이 드러나야 되는 현실적인 조건들입니다.

 

 

주님, 오늘 아침 제가 성경말씀을 읽는 중에 저를 매우 친밀하게

감동시키는 말씀은-즉, “모세가 이와 같이 행했다. 주님이 그에게

지시하신 대로 그가 행했다.” 라는 말씀입니다.
