THE UNCRITICAL TEMPER

“Judge not, that ye be not judged.” Matthew 7:1

 

Jesus says regarding judging-Don’t. The average Christian is the most penetratingly critical individual. Criticism is a part of the ordinary faculty of man; but in the spiritual domain nothing is accomplished by criticism. The effect of criticism is a dividing up of powers of the one criticized; the Holy Ghost is the only one in the true position to criticize, He alone is able to show what is wrong without hurting and wounding. It is impossible to enter into communion with God when you are in a critical temper; it makes you hard and vindictive and cruel, and leaves you with the flattering unction that you are a superior person. Jesus says, as a disciple cultivate the uncritical temper. It is not done once and for all. Beware of anything that puts you in the superior person’s place.

There is no getting away from the penetration of Jesus. If I see the mote in your eye, it means I have a beam in my own. Every wrong thing that I see in you, God locates in me. Every time I judge, I condemn myself (see Romans 2:17-20). [+Romans 2:21-23]. Stop having a measuring rod for other people. There is always one fact more in every man’s case about which we know nothing. The first thing God does is to give us a spiritual spring-cleaning; there is no possibility of pride left in a man after that. I have never met the man I could despair of after discerning what lies in me apart from the grace of God.

Lord, unto Thee I look up, help me to worship Thee aright. I praise Thee that my nature does worship Thee, but my conscious life is slow to respond to Thee and Thy beauty as it might. Lord, help me.

비판하지 않는 기질

비판을 받지 아니하려거든 비판하지 말라 (마 7:1)

 

예수님께서는 비판하지 말라고 말씀하십니다. 대부분의 그리스도인들은 아주 혹독할 정도의 비판적 인물들입니다. 비판은 인간의 정상적인 기능의 일부입니다. 그러나 영적 세계에서는 비판에 의해 이루어지는 것은 아무 것도 없습니다. 비판의 효과는 비판 받는 자의 여러 능력들을 분산시키는 것입니다. 성령님만이 진정한 위치에서 비판할 수 있는 유일한 분이십니다. 그분만이 상처를 주지 않고 무엇이 잘못되었는지를 보여주실 수 있습니다. 당신이 비판적인 정신 상태에 놓여있을 때는 하나님과의 영적 교제가 불가능 합니다. 비판하려는 감정으로 인해 당신의 마음은 강퍅해지고 원한을 품게 되며 잔인하게 됩니다. 나아가 당신이 다른 사람들 보다 우월한 사람이라는 스스로 우쭐하는 감정에 빠지게 됩니다. 제자로서 비판하지 않는 기질을 기르라고 예수님께서 말씀하십니다. 이는 하루 아침에 되는 일이 아닙니다. 당신을 우월감 속으로 끌어들이는 것들을 조심하십시오.

마음을 꿰뚫어보시는 예수님의 시선을 피할 수 없습니다. 만일 내가 당신의 눈에서 티를 본다면 이는 내 눈 안에 들보가 있다는 뜻입니다. 내가 당신에게서 보는 잘못된 것 모두를 하나님은 내 안에서 찾아내십니다. 내가 비판할 때마다 나는 나 자신을 정죄하는 것입니다. (롬 2:17-20) 다른 사람들을 향해 비판하는 잣대를 버리십시오. 다른 사람들의 경우에 언제나 우리가 전혀 알지 못하는 한 가지 사실이 더 있는 것입니다. 하나님께서 우리를 향해 제일 먼저 베푸시는 일은 우리 안의 영적 춘계 대청소입니다. 청소를 하고 나면 청소를 받은 그 사람 안에 교만이 남아 있을 수 없습니다. 내가 하나님의 은혜를 떠났을 때 내 안에 남아있는 것이 무엇인가를 깨달은 후부터는 실망의 대상이 되는 사람을 만나본 적이 없습니다.

 

기도

하나님, 제가 주님을 간절함으로 바라봅니다, 제가 주님을 올바르게 경배할 수 있도록 도와주시옵소서.  제 천성이 주님을 경배하도록 제가 주님을 찬양합니다만, 의식적인 제 실제 삶은 주님의 말씀에 순종하는데 느리고 주님의 아름다움을 본받는데 느립니다. 주 하나님 아버지, 저를 도와 주시옵소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도 드립니다. 아멘.
