THE WAY TO KNOW

“If any man will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine,

                               whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.”

John 7:17

 

The golden rule for understanding spiritually is not intellect, but obedience. If a man wants scientific knowledge, intellectual curiosity is his guide; but if he wants insight into what Jesus Christ teaches, he can only get it by obedience. If things are dark to me, then I may be sure there is something I will not do. Intellectual darkness comes through ignorance; spiritual darkness comes because of something I do not intend to obey.

No man ever receives a word from God without instantly being put to the test over it. We disobey and then wonder why we don’t go on spiritually. “If when you come to the altar,” said Jesus, “there you remember your brother hath ought against you. . . don’t say another word to Me, but first go and put that thing right.” The teaching of Jesus hits us where we live. We cannot stand as humbugs before Him for one second. He educates us down to the scruple. The Spirit of God unearths the spirit of self-vindication; He makes us sensitive to things we never thought of before.

When Jesus brings a thing home by His word, don’t shirk it. If you do, you will become a religious humbug. Watch the things you shrug your shoulders over, and you will know why you do not go on spiritually. First go— at the risk of being thought fanatical you must obey what God tells you.

 

“When He hideth his face, who then can behold Him?” There is so little

sign of Thy being with us in these days of waiting. I pray not for any

sign of outward success, but I do seek the sense of Thy blessing

and approval.

아는 방법

“사람이 하나님의 뜻을 행하려 하면 이 교훈이 하나님께로부터

                                 왔는지 내가 스스로 말함인지 알리라.”

요한복음 7:17

 

영적 이해를 돕는 황금률은 지성이 아니고 순종입니다. 과학적 지식을 원하는 사람에게는 지적 호기심이 그 사람을 인도합니다. 그러나 예수 그리스도의 가르침에 대한 통찰력을 얻고자 하는 사람은 순종을 통해서만 그걸 획득할 수 있습니다. 만약 사물이 내게 잘 안 보인다면 내가 하기 싫은 무언가가 있다고 확신할 수 있습니다. 지적 어둠은 무지를 통해서 옵니다. 영적 어둠은 내가 순종할 마음이 없는 무언가 때문에 옵니다.

하나님으로부터 어떤 말씀을 받는 사람은 누구나 즉시 그 말씀에 대한 시험에 처하게 됩니다. 우리가 불순종하고 난 다음에 왜 우리가 영적으로 진행하지 못하는지 놀랍니다. “그러므로 예물을 제단에 드리려다가 거기서 네 형제에게 원망들을 만한 일이 있는 것이 생각나거든 예물을 제단 앞에 두고 먼저 가서 형제와 화목하고 그 후에 와서 예물을 드리라.”(마 5:23-24)고 예수님께서 말씀하셨습니다. 예수님의 가르침은 우리 실생활에 딱 들어맞습니다. 우리는 한 순간도 주님을 속일 수 없습니다. 주님께서는 양심의 가책을 느끼는 심령의 깊이까지 우리를 교육하십니다. 성령은 자기 변명의 영을 들추어 내십니다. 성령께서는 우리가 전에 결코 생각하지 못했던 것들에 우리가 민감하도록 역사하십니다.

예수님께서 말씀을 통해 어떤 일을 생각나게 하실 때는 그걸 피하지 마십시오. 당신이 만약 회피하면 당신은 종교적인 사기꾼이 될 것입니다. 어깨를 움츠리는 시늉으로 불순종하지 않도록 조심하십시오. 그렇게 하면 당신이 영적으로 성장하지 않는 이유를 알게 될 것입니다. 광신자라고 여겨질 위험을 무릅쓰더라도 먼저 가서 당신은 하나님께서 당신에게 말씀하시는 대로 순종해야 합니다.

 

“주님께서 얼굴을 감추실 때 누가 주님을 바라볼 수 있습니까?” 기다리고

있는 이런 날들 가운데 주님께서 우리와 함께 계신다는 징조가 거의

없습니다. 저는 외적인 성공의 어떤 징조를 간구하지 않고 주님께서

축복하시고 인정하신다는 느낌을 구하옵니다.
