THE INITIATIVE AGAINST

DRUDGERY

“Arise, shine.”

Isaiah 60:1

We have to take the first step as though there were no God. It is no use to wait for God to help us, He will not; but immediately we arise we find He is there. Whenever God inspires, the initiative is moral one. We must do the thing and not lie like a log. If we will arise and shine, drudgery becomes divinely transfigured.

Drudgery is one of the finest touchstones of character there is. Drudgery is work that is very far removed from anything to do with the ideal-the utterly mean grubby things; and when we come in contact with them we know instantly whether or not we are spiritually real. Read John 13. We see there the Incarnate God doing the most desperate piece of drudgery, washing fishermen’s feet, and He says-“If I then, Your Lord and Master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.” It requires the inspiration of God to go through drudgery with the light of God upon it. Some people do s certain thing and the way in which they do it hallows that thing for ever afterwards. It may be the most commonplace thing, but after we have seen them do it, it becomes different. When the Lord does a thing through us, He always transfigures it. Our Lord took on Him our human flesh and transfigured it, and it has become for every saint the temple of the Holy Ghost.

 

   Breathe on me, Breath of God, until my mind and spirit are

in suitable adjustment to Thyself. Shed abroad liberty and

purity and power amongst and in us all.

단조롭고 고된 일에 대항하는 주도권

“일어나라 빛을 발하라.”

이사야 60:1

 

우리는 마치 하나님이 존재하지 않는 것 인양 첫 발을 내딛지 않으면 안 됩니다. 하나님께서 우리를 도와주시기를 기다리는 건 아무 소용이 없습니다. 하나님께서는 그런 식으로 돕지 않으실 것입니다. 그러나 우리가 일어나는 즉시 하나님께서 거기 계심을 우리는 알게 됩니다. 하나님께서 영감을 불어넣으실 때는 언제든지 주도권은 도덕적인 것입니다. 우리가 행동을 해야 하는 것이지 통나무처럼 누어 있어서는 안 되는 것입니다. 우리가 만일 일어나서 빛을 발하려고 할 것이면 단조롭고 고된 일은 신성한 것으로 변모됩니다.

지루하고 따분한 고된 일은 성격을 알아보는 데 사용되는 가장 좋은 시금석 중 하나입니다. 지루하고 따분한 고된 일은 아주 천한 지저분한 일로서 이상과 관련 된 어떠한 것으로부터도 멀리 분리되어 있는 것입니다. 또한 우리가 그런 일들과 접촉을 할 때 즉시 우리가 실제 영적인 존재인지 아닌지를 알게 됩니다. 요한복음 13장을 읽어보십시오. 어부들의 발을 씻으심으로 지저분하고 따분한 고된 일 중 가장 극단적인 경우의 일을 실천하시는 성육신 하나님을 우리가 거기서 보게 되는데 주님은 “내가 주와 선생이 되어 너희 발을 씻었으니 너희도 서로 발을 씻어주는 것이 당연하니라.”고 말씀하십니다. 하나님이 주시는 영감은 하나님의 광채를 등에 업고 지루하고 따분한 고된 일을 겪기를 요구합니다. 어떤 사람들이 특정한 일을 하는데 그들이 일하는 방식이 후에 그 일을 영원히 신성하게 합니다. 그것은 가장 평범한 일일지도 모릅니다. 그러나 그들이 그 일을 하는 것을 우리가 보고 난 후에는 그 일이 달라집니다. 주님께서 우리를 통해 일하실 때 주님께서는 그 일을 언제나 변모시키십니다. 우리 주님께서 우리 인간의 육신을 입으셨는데 그것을 변모시키셨습니다. 그리하여 그것은 모든 성도를 위하여 성령이 거하시는 성전이 되었습니다.

 

   제 마음과 영이 주님의 뜻에 합당하게 조정될 때까지 하나님의

호흡을 제게 불어주시옵소서. 우리 모두의 안에 회중 가운데 자유와

순결성과 능력을 충만하게 부어주시옵소서.
