DISPOSITION AND DEEDS

“Except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of

                               the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the

                               kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 5: 20

 

The characteristic of a disciple is not that he does good things, but that he is good in motive because he has been made good by the supernatural grace of God. The only thing that exceeds right-doing is right-being. Jesus Christ came to put into any man who would let Him a new heredity which would exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees. Jesus says—If you are My disciple you must be right not only in your living, but in your motives, in your dreams, in the recesses of your mind. You must be so pure in your motives that God Almighty can see nothing to censure. Who can stand in the Eternal Light of God and have nothing for God to censure? only the Son of God, and Jesus Christ claims that by His Redemption He can put into any man His own disposition, and make him as unsullied and as simple as a child. The purity which God demands is impossible unless I can be remade within, and that is what Jesus has undertaken to do by His Redemption.

No man can make himself pure by obeying laws. Jesus Christ does not give us rules and regulations; His teachings are truths that can only be interpreted by the disposition He puts in. The great marvel of Jesus Christ’s salvation is that He alters heredity. He does not alter human nature; He alters its mainspring:

 

Send forth Thy light, O Lord, and brood over this place as Thou

didst brood over chaos; work mightily in Thy spiritual domains, and

help me erect mountain peaks of prayer that the clouds may be rent

and bring themselves down in blessing.

성질과 행동

“내가 너희에게 이르노니 너희 의가 서기관과 바리새인보다

                                더 낫지 못하면 결코 천국에 들어가지 못하리라.”

                                                                                                                          마태복음 5:20

 

제자의 특징은 선한 일들을 하는 것이 아니고 하나님의 초자연적 은혜를 통해 그가 선하게 거듭났기 때문에 동기가 선한 것입니다. 의로운 행동보다 탁월한 것은 의로운 존재입니다. 예수 그리스도께서는 서기관과 바리새인의 의보다 나은 새로운 유전형질을 그를 믿기로 작정한 어떤 사람에게 투입하기 위하여 오셨습니다. “너희가 만일 나의 제자가 된다면 너희 생활뿐만 아니라 동기, 꿈, 깊은 마음 속까지도 의로워야 한다.”고 예수님께서 이르십니다. 전능하신 하나님께서 책망하실 수 있는 것이 아무 것도 없을 정도로 여러분은 동기가 순수해야 합니다. 책망할 것이 전혀 없이 하나님의 영원한 빛 가운데 설 수 있는 사람이 누구입니까? 하나님의 독생자만이 그럴 자격이 있습니다. 예수 그리스도의 구속을 통해서 어떤 사람을 주님의 성질로 바꾸어 어린아이처럼 더럽혀지지 않고 단순한 사람으로 변화시킬 수 있다고 주님께서 주장하십니다. 내가 성령에 의해서 영적으로 거듭날 수 없다면 하나님께서 요구하시는 청결은 불가능합니다. 예수님께서 자신의 구속을 통해 이루겠다고 약속하신 것이 바로 그 청결입니다.

율법을 지킴으로써 자신을 청결하게 만들 수 있는 사람은 아무도 없습니다. 예수 그리스도께서는 우리에게 규칙과 규제사항들을 주지 않으십니다. 주님의 가르침들은 주님께서 투입하시는 성질을 통해서만 해석이 가능한 진리들입니다. 예수 그리스도의 구원의 위대한 불가사의는 주님께서 유전형질을 바꾸신다는 것입니다. 주님께서 인간 본성을 바꾸시는 것이 아닙니다. 주님께서 인간 본성의 근원을 바꾸십니다.

 

오오 주님, 주님의 빛을 발산하여 혼돈을 뒤덮으셨듯이 이 장소를

덮어주시옵소서. 주님의 영적 세계에서 강력하게 역사하시어 구름을

빌어 축복으로 강림할 수 있는 기도의 산 정상을 제가 세우도록

도와주시옵소서.
