4장 심령이 가난한 사람들은 복이 있나니

"이것이 ‘심령이 가난하다’는 의미입니다. 이것은 자만심이 완전히 없음, 자신과 자기 의존의 완전한 없음을 의미합니다. 이것은 우리가 하나님의 존전에서 아무 것도 아닌 존재라는 의식을 의미합니다. 우리가 낳을 수 있는 것은 하나도 없습니다. 우리 스스로 할 수 있는 것은 하나도 없습니다. 가난하다는 것은 우리가 하나님과 마주 대할 때에 느끼는 우리의 철저한 무능에 대한 이 엄청난 인식입니다. 이것이 ‘심령이 가난하다’는 것입니다."

"That, then, is what is meant by being 'poor in spirit'. It means a complete absence of pride, a complete absence of self-reliance. It means a consciousness that we are nothing in the presence of God. It is nothing, then, that we can produce; it is nothing that we can do in ourselves. It is just this tremendous awareness of our utter nothingness as we come face-to-face with God. That is to be 'poor in spirit.'"   

"기독교인은 타고난 ‘개성’이라든가, 지능이라든가 일반적 혹은 특수적 능력이나 재능을 의뢰해서는 안 됩니다. 자신의 도덕성이나 선한 행실을 신뢰해서는 안 됩니다. 우리가 지금까지 살아 왔거나 또는 앞으로 살려고 애쓰는 삶에 조금이라도 의지해서는 안 됩니다. 그렇습니다. 우리는 바울이 간주한 것처럼 이 모든 것을 간주해야 합니다. 이것이 ‘심령의 가난’입니다."

"We shall not rely upon any gifts like that of natural 'personality', or intelligence or general or special ability. We shall not rely upon our own morality and conduct and good behaviour. We shall not bank to the slightest extent on the life we have lived or are trying to live. No; we shall regard all that as Paul regarded it. That is 'poverty of spirit'."

 

"거듭 말씀드립니다. 그것은 우리가 아무 것도 아니라는 느낌이며, 우리가 아무것도 소유하고 있지 않으며, 우리가 철저히 복종한 상태로 하나님을 바라보며 그와 그의 은혜와 자비를 철저하게 의뢰하는 것입니다. 예컨대 이사야가 환상을 보고 ‘화로다 나는 입술이 부정한 사람이다’고 말할 때의 체험같은 것입니다. 이것이 ‘심령이 가난한 것입니다."

“I say again, it is to feel that we are nothing, and that we have nothing, and that we look to God in utter submission to Him and in utter dependence upon Him and His grace and mercy. It is, I say, to experience to some extent what Isaiah experienced when, having seen the vision, he said 'Woe is me!....... I am a man of unclean lips'-that is 'poverty of spirit'.

심령이 가난하게 되는 것은 하나님을 바라보는 길입니다. 성경을 읽고, 그의 법을 읽고, 그가 우리에게 무엇을 기대하시는 가를 살피고 우리가 그 앞에 서 있음을 용서하십시오. 동시에 주 예수 그리스도를 바라보고, 우리가 그를 복음서에서 보게 되는  그대로 그를 바라보십시오. 이렇게 하면 할수록 여러분은 그와 그가 하신 일을 보면서, ‘주여, 믿음을 더 하소서’라고 말한 성도들의 반응을 이해하게 될 것입니다. 그들은 그들의 믿음이 아무 것도 아닌 것으로 느껴졌습니다. 그들은 그들의 믿음이 너무 약하고 너무 빈약한 것으로 느껴졌습니다. ‘주여, 우리에게 믿음을 더하소서.’ 

The way to become poor in spirit is to look at God. Read this Book about Him, read His law, look at what He expects from us, contemplate standing before Him. It is also to look at the Lord Jesus Christ and to view Him as we see Him in the Gospels. The more we do that the more something we shall understand the reaction of the apostles when, looking at Him and something He had just done, they said, 'Lord, increase our faith.' Their faith, they felt, was nothing. They felt is was so weak and so poor. 'Lord, increase our faith.    

주를 바라봅시다. 주를 바라보면 볼수록 우리들 스스로는 무력하다는 것을 느끼게 됩니다. 그래서 우리들은 더욱 ‘심령이 가난하게’ 될 것입니다. 주를 바라보십시오. 주를 계속 바라보십시오. 성도들을 바라보십시오. 성령으로 충만해지고 쓰임 받은 사람들을 보십시오.

하지만 무엇보다 다시 주를 바라보십시오. 그러면 여러분은 자신을 위하여 할 일이 아무것도 없게 될 것입니다. 그것은 여러분에게 행해져야 할 것들입니다. 여러분이 자신들의 절대 가난함과 공허함을 느끼지 않고는 그를 참으로 바라볼 수 없을 것입니다. 그런 다음 주님에게 말씀하십시오.

 Look at Him; and the more we look him, the more hopeless shall we feel by ourselves, and in and of ourselves, and the more shall we become 'poor in spirit'. Look at Him, keep looking at him. Look at the saints, look at the men who have been most filled with the Spirit and used. But above all, look again at Him, and then you will have nothing to do yourself. It will be done. You cannot truly look at Him without feeling your absolute poverty, and emptiness. Then you say to Him.

내 손에 있는 것은 하나도 없으니 

Nothing in my hand I bring,

오 주여 당신의 십자가를 붙들 뿐입니다.

Simply to Thy cross I cling

속이 비고 무력하고 벌거벗은 죄인이지만 주님은 항상 충족시켜 주십니다.

제게 필요한 것이 모두 당신에게만 있으니 

Yea, all I need, in Thee to find,

오 하나님의 어린양이시여, 주께로 갑니다.

O Lamb of God, I come.
