5장 애통하는 사람들은 복이 있나니

     Blessed Are They That Mourn              

 

"이렇게 중요한 것이기에 우리는 이 문제를 이 산상설교의 관점에서 접근해 보려고 합니다. 산상설교는 부정적인 면부터 시작합니다. 즉 성령으로 충만해 질 수 있기 전에 우리는 심령이 가난해져야 합니다. 긍정적인 것에 앞서 부정적인 것이 있기 마련입니다. 그리고 여기에 다시 이것과 꼭 같은 경우의 실례가 있으니 곧 죄의식은 필연적으로 개심에 선행해야 한다는 것입니다. 즉 구원의 참 기쁨이 있기 전에 죄의식이 있어야 합니다. 이것은 복음의 본질입니다."

“That is why it is so important that we should approach it all in terms of this Sermon on the Mount, which starts with negatives. We have to be poor in spirit before we can be filled with the Holy Spirit. Negative, before positive. And here again is another example of exactly the same thing-conviction must of necessity precede conversion, a real sense of sin must come before there can be a true joy of salvation. Now that is the whole essence of the gospel.

  

 

"그들은 죄론의 설교를 반대합니다. 그들은 정죄의식을 떠나서 기쁨을 원합니다. 하지만 이것은 불가능합니다. 이렇게 해서 기쁨을 얻을 수 없습니다. 개심하여 참으로 행복하고 복되려는 사람들은 무엇보다 먼저 애통하는 사람이어야 합니다. 정죄 의식은 참된 개심에 예비적으로 앞서는 본질적 요소인 것입니다."

"They do not like the doctrine of sin. They dislike it intensely and they object to its being preached. They want joy apart from the conviction of sin. But that is impossible; it can never be obtained. Those who are going to be converted and who wish to be truly happy and blessed are those who first of all mourn. Conviction is an essential preliminary to true conversion."

 

"기독교인은 ‘아 나는 얼마나 비참한 인간입니까? 누가 이 죽음의 몸에서 나를 건져 주겠습니까?’란 외침이 무엇인지 아는 사람임을 기억합시다."

"Let us remember, then, that the Christian is a man who knows what it is to cry out, 'O wretched man that I am. who shall deliver me from the body of this death?"

 

"기독교인은 자기에 대하여 철저할 정도의 절망감을 가지고 바울처럼 ‘내 안에 곧 내 육신 안에서 선한 것이 있지 않다는 것을 나는 압니다’라고 말하게 됩니다."

"A Christian man knows that experience of feeling utterly hopeless about himself, and says about himself, as did Paul, 'In me(that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing'."  

 

"참된 기독교인은 다른 사람들의 죄 때문에도 애통합니다. 그는 자기 자신에 머물지 않습니다. 그는 다른 사람들 속에서도 같은 것을 봅니다. 그리고 더 나아가 세상의 도덕적 혼란과 인류의 불행과 고통을 보면서 세상의 상태 때문에 애통합니다. 그는 온 세상이 불건전하고 불행한 상태에 있음을 봅니다. 그는 이것이 모두 죄 때문이라는 것을 알며 이 때문에 애통합니다."

"The man who is truly Christian is a man who mourns also because of the sins of others. He does not stop at himself. He sees the same thing in others. He is concerned about the state of society, and the state of the world, and as he reads his newspaper he does not stop at what he sees or simply express disgust at it. He mourns because of it, because men can so spend their life in this world."  

    

 

"죄의 상태 때문에 참으로 애통하는 사람은 회개하려는 사람입니다. 사실은 이미 회개하고 있습니다. 그리고 그의 위에 성령의 사역의 결과로 참으로 회개하는 사람은 주 예수 그리스도에게 인도받을 것이 분명한 사람입니다. 그는 자기의 철저한 죄성과 절망을 보고 구주를 찾습니다. 그는 그리스도 안에서 구주를 발견합니다. 애통의 의미를 먼저 알기 전에 주를 그의 구주로, 구속주로 알 수 있는 사람은 없습니다."

"The man who truly mourns because of his sinful state and condition is a man who is going to repent; he is, indeed, actually repenting already. And the man who truly repents as the result of the work of the Holy Spirit upon him, is a man who is certain to be led to the Lord Jesus Christ. Having seen his utter sinfulness and hopelessness, he looks for a Saviour, and he finds Him in Christ. No one can truly know Him as his personal Saviour and Redeemer unless he has first of all known what it is to mourn."  

 

 

"기독교인은 세상을 바라보고, 자기 자신을 바라볼 때에도 불행합니다. 그는 심령으로 신음합니다. 그는 사도들과 주가 느끼신 죄의 짐을 느끼는 것입니다. 하지만 즉각 위로를 받습니다. 그는 다가오는 영광을 압니다. 그는 그리스도께서 돌아오실 날이 동터 올 것을 압니다. 그러면 죄는 땅위에서 물러갈 것이며 ‘의의 거하는바 새 하늘과 새 땅이’ 일할 것입니다. 오 복된 소망이여! ‘애통하는 사람들은 복이 있습니다. 그들이 위로를 받을 것이기 때문입니다.’"

"In the other words, as the Christian looks at the world, and even as he looks at himself, he is unhappy. He groans in spirit; he knows something of the burden of sin as seen in the world which was felt by the apostles and by the Lord Himself. But he is immediately comforted. He knows there is a glory coming; he knows that a day will dawn when Christ will return, and sin will be banished from the earth. There will be 'new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness'. O blessed hope! 'Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted'."

 

 

"그러면 애통하는 사람을 정의해 봅시다. 이 사람은 어떤 사람입니까? 슬픈 사람입니다. 하지만 병적인 사람은 아닙니다. 그는 슬픈 사람입니다. 하지만 비참한 사람은 아닙니다. 심각한 사람입니다. 하지만 엄숙한 사람은 아닙니다. 신중한 사람입니다. 하지만 퉁명스럽지는 않습니다. 위엄 있는 사람입니다. 하지만 냉정하거나 부정적인 사람은 아닙니다."

"Let us, then, try to define this man who mourns. What sort of a man is he? He is a sorrowful man, but he is not morose. He is a sorrowful man, but he is not a miserable man. He is a serious man, but he is not a solemn man. He is a sober-minded man, but he is not a sullen man. He is a grave man, but he is never cold or prohibitive.

 

 

"그는 삶을 심각하게 바라보는 사람입니다. 그는 삶을 영적으로 응시합니다. 그는 삶 속에서 죄와 그 결과를 봅니다. 그는 심각하고 신중한 사람입니다. 그의 전망은 항상 심각합니다. 하지만 이러한 견해와 진리에 대한 이해 때문에 그는 ‘말할 수 없이 영광으로 가득한 기쁨’을 갖고 있습니다. 그러므로 그는 ‘속으로 신음한’ 사도 바울 과 같지만 그리스도를 체험함과 장차 올 영광 때문에 행복합니다."

"No, no; he is a man who looks at life seriously; he contemplates it spiritually, and he sees in it sin and its effects. He is serious, sober-minded man. His outlook is always serious, but because of these view which he has, and his understanding of truth, he also has 'a joy unspeakable and full of glory'. So he is like the apostle Paul, groaning within himself', and happy because of his experience of Christ and the glory that is to come."    

 

 

"기독교인은 어떤 의미에서든 피상적인 사람이 아니며 근본 심각하고 근본 행복합니다. 기독교인의 기쁨은 거룩한 기쁨이요, 기독교인의 기쁨은 심각한 행복입니다. 저 피상적인 행복과 기쁨의 모습은 없습니다."

"The Christian is not superficial in any sense, but is fundamentally serious and fundamentally happy. You see, the joy of the Christian is a holy joy, the happiness of the Christian is a serious happiness." None of that superficial appearance of happiness and joy!"

 

 

 

"심오한 죄론과 차원 높은 기쁨의 교리, 이 둘이 합하여 이렇게 애통하며 동시에 위로를 받는 복되고 행복한 사람을 만들어 냅니다. 이것을 체험하는 길은 성경을 읽고, 연구하고, 묵상하고, 성령께서 우리 속의 죄를 계시해 주시도록 하나님께 기도하며 주 예수 그리스도를 충만하게 계시해 주시도록 기도하는 길입니다. ‘애통하는 사람은 복이 있습니다. 그가 위로를 받을 것이기 때문입니다.’"

"A deep doctrine of sin, a high doctrine of joy, and the two together produce this blessed, happy man who mourns, and who at the same time is comforted. The way to experience that, obviously, is to read the Scriptures, to study and meditate upon them, to pray to God for His Spirit to reveal sin in us to ourselves, and then to revel to us the Lord Jesus Christ is all His fullness. 'Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.'"
