THE CONCENTRATION OF SPIRITUAL ENERGY

 

“… save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

                                                                                                      Galatians 6:14

 

   If you want to know the energy of God (i.e., the resurrection life of Jesus) in your mortal flesh, you must brood on the tragedy of God. Cut yourself off from prying personal interest in your own spiritual symptoms and consider bare-spirited the tragedy of God, and instantly the energy of God will be in you. “Look unto Me,” pay attention to the objective source and the subjective energy will be there. We lose power if we do not concentrate on the right thing. The effect of the Cross is salvation, sanctification, healing, etc., but we are not to preach any of these, we are to preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified. The proclaiming of Jesus will do its own work. Concentrate on God’s centre in your preaching, and though your crowd may apparently pay no attention, they can never be the same again. If I talk my own talk, it is of no more importance to you than your talk is to me; but if I talk the truth of God, you will meet it again and so will I. We have to concentrate on the great point of spiritual energy-the Cross, to keep in contact with that centre where all the power lies, and the energy will be let loose. In holiness movements and spiritual experience meetings the concentration is apt to be put not on the Cross of Christ, but on the effects of the Cross.

   The feebleness of the churches is being criticized today, and the criticism is justified. one reason for the feebleness is that there has not been this concentration of spiritual energy; we have not brooded enough on the tragedy of Calvary or on the meaning of Redemption.

 

   O Lord, my God, how wonderfully and powerfully Thou hast caused

me to know with a knowledge that passes knowledge that

Redemption is the one great revelation Reality.

영적 에너지의 집중

 

“…우리 주 예수 그리스도의 십자가 외에.”

                                        갈라디아서 6:14

 

당신이 죽을 수밖에 없는 육체 안에서 하나님의 에너지(즉 예수님의 부활생명)를 알고 싶다면, 하나님의 비극을 곰곰이 생각하지 않으면 안됩니다. 당신의 영적 증상에 관한 개인적인 집착에서 벗어나서 하나님의 비극을 순수한 영으로 묵상하십시오. 그러면 즉시 하나님의 에너지가 당신 안에 발생할 것입니다. “나를 앙망하라,” 는 말씀처럼 객관적인 근원에 마음을 쏟으면 주관적인 에너지가 발생할 것입니다. 우리가 올바른 것에 집중하지 않으면 우리는 능력을 상실합니다. 십자가의 결과는 구원, 성화, 치유 등입니다. 그러나 우리는 이러한 결과들 중의 어떤 것을 설교하지 말고 예수 그리스도와 십자가에 못 박힌 그분에 관해서 설교해야 합니다. 예수님을 찬미하면 스스로 역사하는 효능을 발생시킬 것입니다. 당신이 설교할 때 하나님의 중심에 집중하십시오. 그러면 당신의 청중은 외관상으로는  주의를 기울이지 않는 것 같이 보일지라도 청중은 이전과 같을 수는 없습니다. 만일 내가 내 자신의 이야기를 한다면, 당신의 이야기가 나에게 더 중요한 것이 아닌 것처럼, 내 자신의 이야기가 당신에게 더 중요성을 가지는 것이 아닙니다. 그러나 만일 내가 하나님의 진리에 관해서 말한다면 당신은 그 진리를 다시 만나게 되고 나도 그 진리의 말씀에 새롭게 도전을 받게 될 것입니다. 모든 능력이 놓여있는 중심과 계속적으로 접촉하기 위해서 우리는 영적 에너지의 위대한 포인트, 즉 예수 그리스도의 십자가에 집중해야 합니다. 그러면 에너지가 흘러나올 것입니다. 영성 훈련과 영적 체험을 위한 모임들에서 그리스도의 십자가에 집중되기 보다 않고 십자가의 결과들에 초점이 맞춰지는 경향이 있습니다.

오늘날 교회의 연약함에 대해서 비판이 가해지고 있습니다. 그 비판은 정당합니다. 그 연약함의 한 가지 이유는 영적 에너지의 이러한 집중이 없었기 때문입니다. 우리는 갈보리의 비극 또는 구속의 의미에 대해서 충분히 묵상하지 않았습니다.

 

   오 주님, 나의 하나님, 얼마나 놀랍게 그리고 강력하게 주님께서

역사하셔서 저로 하여금 구속(救贖)이 하나의 위대한 계시인 실체

(역자 주: 천지의 창조주 하나님을 지칭함)라는 학문을 가르치는 것을

이해하도록 함으로써 확신에 찬 믿음을 갖게 하시는지요.
