DIRECTION OF ASPIRATION

 

“Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their

                              masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her

                 mistress;  so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that

                 he have mercy upon us.”

                                                                                                                    Psalm 123:2

 

   This verse is a description of entire reliance upon God. Just as the eyes of the servant are riveted on his master, so our eyes are up unto God and our knowledge of His countenance is gained (cf. Isaiah 53:1, RV). Spiritual leakage begins when we cease to lift up our eyes unto Him. The leakage comes not so much through trouble on the outside as in the imagination; when we begin to say-“I expect I have been stretching myself a bit too much, standing on tiptoe and trying to look like God instead of being an ordinary humble person.” We have to realize that no effect can be too high.

   For instance, you came to a crisis when you made a stand for God and had the witness of the Spirit that all was right, but the weeks have gone by, and the years maybe, and you are slowly coming to the conclusion-“Well, after all, was I not a bit too pretentious? Was I not taking a stand a bit too high?” You r rational friends come and say-Don’t be a fool, we knew when you talked about this spiritual awakening, that it was a passing impulse, you can’t keep up the strain, God does not expect you to. And you say-Well, I suppose I was expecting too much. It sounds humble to say it, but it means that reliance on God has gone and reliance on worldly opinion has come in. The danger is lest no longer relying on God you ignore the lifting up of your eyes to Him. only when God brings you to a sudden halt, will you realize how you have been losing out. Whenever there is a leakage, remedy it immediately. Recognize that something has been coming between you and God, and get it readjusted at once.

  

     O Lord, how slow I am to show in my manners and ways

the gracious grace of God! When shall Thy beauty be

upon me for Thine honour?

열망의 지침서

 

“상전의 손을 바라보는 종들의 눈 같이, 여주인의 손을

                바라보는 여종의 눈 같이 우리의 눈이 여호와 우리 하나님을

               바라보며 우리에게 은혜 베풀어 주시기를 기다리나이다.”

                                 시편 123:2

 

이 말씀은 하나님께 대한 전폭적인 의존을 설명한 것입니다. 종의 시선이 그의 상전에게 고정되어 있듯이 우리 시선도 하나님께 고정되어서 하나님의 얼굴에 대한 지식이 얻어집니다. (사 53:1 참조) 우리가 눈을 들어 하나님을 올려 바라다보는 것을 중단할 때 영적 누출이 시작됩니다. 이러한 누출은 외부의 걱정거리를 통해서보다는 오히려 상상 안에서 발생합니다. “평범하고 겸손한 사람이 되는 대신에 하나님처럼 보이려고 하면서 크게 기대하여 좀 지나치게 전력을 쏟아 무리를 해오고 있었어.” 라고 말하기 시작할 때. 노력을 많이 해서 나쁠 건 없다는 점을 우리가 깨달아야 합니다.

예를 들면, 당신이 하나님께 저항하고 모든 것이 잘 되어간다고 성령님은 증언하지만, 그런 상태로 몇 주가 지나가고 아마 몇 년이 지나가버렸을 때 당신은 위기를 맞았던 것입니다. 그러고 나서 “자, 결국 내가 좀 지나치게 우쭐대지 않았나? 내가 좀 지나치게 거만을 떨지 않았던가?” 라는 결론에 당신이 서서히 도달하고 있습니다. 이성을 가진 당신의 친구들이 찾아와서 “바보 짓을 그만 두라. 네가 이 영적 각성에 관하여 말했을 때 그것은 지나가는 충동이었고, 너는 그 긴장을 계속 유지할 수 없으며 하나님이 네가 그러기를 기대하지 않으신다는 것을 우리들은 알고 있었다.” 라고 말합니다. 그러자 “그래, 내가 너무 큰 것을 기대하고 있었어.” 라고 당신은 말합니다. 그렇게 말하는 것은 겸손하게 들리지만, 하나님에 대한 의존은 사라지고 세속적인 의견에 의존하게 되었다는 것을 뜻하는 것입니다. 하나님을 더 이상 의존하지 않고 당신이 눈을 들어 하나님을 바라보는 것을 무시한다는 바로 그 점이 위험입니다. 하나님께서 당신을 소생시켜 정신이 들어 갑자기 멈추게 하실 때에야 비로소 당신은 그 동안 얼마나 실패해오고 있었는가를 깨닫게 될 것입니다. 영적 누출이 발생할 때는 언제든지 그것을 당장에 치료하십시오. 당신과 하나님 사이에 무엇인가 끼어들었음을 알아보고 그것을 즉시 바로잡아 놓으십시오.

 

오 주님, 제 몸가짐과 습관에 있어서 하나님의 자비로운 은총을 나타내는 데 제가

얼마나 느린지요! 주님의 명예를 위해 주님의 아름다움이 제게 발생하는 때가 언제일까요?

 

11월 24일
