THE LIFE THAT LIVES

“Tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with

                                power from on high.”

                                   Luke 24:49

 

The disciples had to tarry until the day of Pentecost not for their own preparation only; they had to wait until the Lord was glorified historically. As soon as He was glorified, what happened? “Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, He hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.” The parenthesis in John 7:39 (“For the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified”) does not apply to us; the Holy Ghost has been given, the Lord is glorified; the waiting depends not on God’s providence, but on our fitness.

The Holy Spirit’s influence and power were at work before Pentecost, but He was not there. Immediately Our Lord was glorified in Ascension, the Holy Spirit came into this world, and He has been here ever since. We have to receive the revelation that He is here. The reception of the Holy Spirit is the maintained attitude of a believer. When we receive the Holy Spirit, we receive quickening life from the ascended Lord.

It is not the baptism of the Holy Ghost which changes men, but the power of the ascended Christ coming into men’s lives by the Holy Ghost that changes them. We too often divorce what the New Testament never divorces. The baptism of the Holy Ghost is not an experience apart from Jesus Christ: it is the evidence of the ascended Christ.

The baptism of the Holy Ghost does not make you think of Time or Eternity, it is one amazing glorious NOW. “This is life eternal that they might know Thee.” Begin to know Him now, and finish never.

 

O Lord, I thank Thee for Thy word, “Not by might,

nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord of

Hosts.” I ask for such aid of Thy Spirit that Thou

mayest be satisfied with me today.

살아 있는 생명

“너희는 위로부터 능력으로 입혀질 때까지

                                  이 예루살렘 성에 머물라.”

                              누가복음 24:49

 

제자들이 성령강림절까지 머물러야 했던 것은 그들 자신의 준비를 위한 목적 때문만이 아니었다. 하나님께서 예정하신 역사적인 때에 맞춰 주님께서 영광을 받으실 때까지 제자들은 기다려야 했다. 주님께서 영광을 받으시자 곧 무슨 일이 발생했는가? “하나님이 오른 손으로 예수를 높이시매 아버지께서 약속하신 성령을 받아서 너희가 보고 듣는 이것을 예수 그리스도께서 부어주셨느니라”(행 2:33). 요한복음 7장 39절 괄호 안의 “예수께서 아직 영광을 받지 않으셨으므로 성령이 아직 그들에게 계시지 아니하시더라”는 말씀은 우리에게는 적용되지 아니한다. 이미 성령은 주워졌고 주님은 영광을 받았다. 기다림은 하나님의 섭리에 달려있지 않고 우리의 합목적성에 달려있다.

성령의 영향력과 권능은 성령강림절 이전에 역사하셨지만 예수께서는 거기 계시지 않았다. 우리 주님께서 승천하심으로써 영화롭게 되신 즉시 성령께서 이 세상에 오셨다. 세상에 오신 후로는 성령께서 항상 여기에 계셨다. 예수 그리스도께서 부할 승천하신 후 보내신 성령이 여기 계신다는 계시를 우리가 인정해야 한다. 성령을 환영하는 것은 계속 유지되어온 믿는 자의 태도다. 우리가 성령을 받을 때 부활 승천하신 주님으로부터 우리가 새 생명을 받는 것이다.

사람들을 변화시키는 것은 성령의 세례가 아니고 그들을 변화시키는 성령을 통해 사람들의 생명 안으로 들어오시는 승천하신 그리스도의 능력이다. 신약성경에서 조금도 분리하지 않는 것을 우리는 너무 자주 분리한다. 성령의 세례는 예수 그리스도와 별개로 이루어지는 체험이 아니다. 그것은 부활 승천하신 그리스도의 증거다.

성령의 세례는 여러분으로 하여금 시간 또는 영원을 생각하도록 만들지 않는다. 성령의 세례는 놀라울 정도로 영광스러운 현재의 희락을 맛보게 한다. “유일하신 참 하나님과 그가 보내신 자 예수 그리스도를 아는 바로 이것이 영생이다”(요 17:3). 이제 주님에 대해서 알기 위하여 배우기를 시작하라. 주님에 대해 배우는 것을 절대로 끝마치지 말라.

 

오 주님, “힘으로도 아니고 능력으로도 아니고 나의 영을 통해서라고,

만군의 여호와께서 말씀하신다.”라는 주님의 말씀으로 인해

주님에게 감사합니다. 주님께서 오늘 제게 만족하실 수 있도록

주님의 영에게 도움을 요청하옵니다.
