THE REALM OF THE REAL

“In your patience possess ye your souls.”

Luke 21:19

When a man is born again, there is not the same robustness in his thinking or reasoning for a time as formerly. We have to make an ｅxpression of the new life, to form the mind of Christ. “Acquire your soul with patience.” Many of us prefer to stay at the threshold of the Christian life instead of going on to construct a soul in accordance with the new life God has put within. We fail because we are ignorant of the way we are made, we put things down to the devil instead of our own undisciplined natures. Think what we can be when we are roused!

There are certain things we must not pray about—moods, for instance. Moods never go by praying, moods go by kicking. A mood nearly always has its seat in the physical condition, not in the moral. It is a continual effort not to listen to the moods which arise from a physical condition; never submit to them for a second. We have to take ourselves by the scruff of the neck and shake ourselves, and we will find that we can do what we said we could not. The curse with most of us is that we won’t. The Christian life is one of incarnate spiritual pluck.

 

     Lord, I praise Thee for Thy word─”In your patience possess ye

your souls,” and I praise Thee for Thy grace which waits while I

laboriously acquire the soul Thou wouldst have me acquire.

현실의 세계

“너희의 인내로 너희 영혼을 얻으라.”

누가복음 21:19

 

사람이 거듭날 때 한 동안은 종전과 같이 생각 또는 논리에 동일한 활기가 없습니다. 그리스도의 마음을 형성하기 위해서 우리가 새 생명을 표현해야 합니다. “인내로써 너희 영혼을 획득하라.” 우리 대다수는 하나님께서 내적으로 부여하신 새 생명에 따라 영혼 건설을 계속하지 않고 그리스도인의 생명의 문턱에 머물기를 선호합니다. 우리가 형성된 방법에 대해서 무지하기 때문에 우리가 실패합니다. 우리 자신의 훈련되지 않은 본성 대신에 일 처리를 마귀에게 맡깁니다. 우리가 분발할 때 우리가 무엇을 할 수 있는지 생각하십시오.

우리가 기도 대상으로 삼지 말아야 하는 특정한 것들이 있습니다. 예를 들면 기분입니다. 기분은 기도로 사라지는 것이 아니고 발로 차버려야 없어집니다. 기분은 거의 항상 도덕적이 아닌 신체적 조건에 따라 발생합니다. 신체적 조건으로부터 발생하는 기분에 좌우되지 않으려면 끊임 없는 노력이 필요합니다. 한 순간도 기분에 지지 마십시오. 우리는 자신의 목덜미를 잡고 흔들어야 합니다. 그러면 우리가 할 수 없다고 말했던 것을 우리가 할 수 있다는 것을 알게 될 것입니다. 우리가 하지 않겠다는 부정적인 태도가 우리 대부분에 대한 저주가 됩니다. 그리스도인의 삶은 영적 담력이 실생활에서 구체적으로 실현된 한 가지 형태입니다.

 

   주님, “너희의 인내로 너희 영혼을 얻으라,”는 주님의 말씀 때문에

주님을 찬양합니다. 그리고 주님께서 제가 획득하기를 원하시는

영혼을 획득하기 위해 제가 노력하는 동안 기다려주시는 주님의

은혜로 인하여 주님을 찬양합니다.
