DO IT YOURSELF

“Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth

                               itself against the knowledge of God.”

                                    2 Corinthians 10:5

 

Determinedly Demolish Some Things. Deliverance from sin is not deliverance from human nature. There are things in human nature, such as prejudices, which the saint has to destroy by neglect; and other things which have to be destroyed by violence, i.e., by the Divine strength imparted by God’s Spirit. There are some things over which we are not to fight, but to stand still in and see the salvation of God; but every theory or conception which erects itself as a rampart against the knowledge of God is to be determinedly demolished by drawing on God’s power, not by fleshly endeavour or compromise (v. 4).

It is only when God has altered our disposition and we have entered into the experience of sanctification that the fight begins. The warfare is not against sin; we can never fight against sin: Jesus Christ deals with sin in Redemption. The conflict is along the line of turning our natural life into a spiritual life, and this is never done easily, nor does God intend it to be done easily. It is done only by a series of moral choices. God does not make us holy in the sense of character; He makes us holy in the sense of innocence, and we have to turn that innocence into holy character by a series of moral choices. These choices are continually in antagonism to the entrenchments of our natural life, the things which erect themselves as ramparts against the knowledge of God. We can either go back and make ourselves of no account in the Kingdom of God, or we can determinedly demolish these things and let Jesus bring another son to glory.

 

O Lord, make this a right royal day with Thee. Touch us, O Lord,

that all our spiritual and material life may be attuned to Thy purposes.

Just Thy touch, and all will be well.

무엇이든 단호히 파괴하라. 죄로부터의 구원은 인간 본성으로부터의 구원이 아닙니다. 인간 본성 안에는 편견들과 같이 방치해두었기 때문에 성도가 파괴해야만 하는 것들이 있습니다. 그 뒤 다른 것들은 폭력에 의해서 즉, 성령께서 베푸신 하나님의 권능으로 파괴되어야 합니다. 우리가 싸워서는 안 되고 조용히 서있다가 하나님의 구원을 확인해야 하는 무엇인가가 있습니다. 그러나 하나님을 아는 지식에 대항해 요새처럼 곧추서는 모든 이론과 관념은 육신적인 노력이나 타협에 의해서가 아니라 하나님의 권능에 의지해서 단호히 무너뜨리지 않으면 안 됩니다(4절).

하나님께서 우리의 성질을 바꾸셔서 우리가 성화의 체험 속으로 들어갔을 때에만 싸움이 시작되는 것입니다. 전투는 죄에 대한 것이 아닙니다. 우리는 죄에 대항해서 결코 싸울 수 없습니다. 예수 그리스도께서 구속 안에서 죄를 다루십니다. 충돌은 우리의 타고난 생명을 영적 생명으로 전환시키는 방향을 따라 발생합니다. 그런데 이것이 결코 쉽게 달성되지 않을 뿐만 아니라 하나님께서도 그것이 쉽게 달성되게 하려고 생각하지 않으십니다. 그것은 일련의 도덕적 선택들을 통해서만 달성됩니다. 하나님께서 성격의 점에서 우리를 거룩하게 만들지 않으십니다. 하나님께서 순결의 의미로 우리를 거룩하게 하시고, 그 뒤 일련의 도덕적 선택들을 통해 우리가 그 순결을 거룩한 성품으로 변화시켜야 합니다. 이러한 선택들은 우리의 타고난 생명의 성채들 즉, 하나님을 아는 지식에 대항해 곧추서있는 요새에 대항해 끊임 없이 영적 투쟁을 벌이고 있는 것입니다. 우리는 후퇴하여 하나님께서 계시는 천국에서 우리를 하찮은 존재로 만들거나 이러한 것들을 우리가 단호히 파괴함으로써 예수님으로 하여금 다른 아들을 영광으로 인도하시게 할 수 있는 두 가지 경우 중 하나를 선택할 수 있는 것입니다.

 

오오 주님, 주님으로 더불어 오늘이 완전히 장엄한 날이 되게 하옵소서.

오오 주님, 우리를 만져주시어 우리의 영적 물질적 삶의 전부가 주님의

목적에 적응할 수 있게 하옵소서. 틀림없이 주님의 만져주심으로 만사

형통할 것입니다.
