MISSIONARY PREDESTINATIONS

“And now, saith the Lord, that formed me from the womb to

                                be His servant.”

                                     Isaiah 49:5

 

The first thing that happens after we have realized our election to God in Christ Jesus is the destruction of our prejudices and our parochial notions and our patriotism; we are turned into servants of God’s own purpose. The whole human race was created to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Sin has switched the human race on to another track, but it has not altered God’s purpose in the tiniest degree; and when we are born again we are brought into the realization of God’s great purpose for the human race, viz., I am created for God, He made me. This realization of the election of God is the most joyful realization on earth, and we have to learn to rely on the tremendous creative purpose of God. The first thing God will do with us is to “force through the channels of a single heart” the interests of the whole world. The love of God, the very nature of God, is introduced into us, and the nature of Almighty God is focused in John 3:16—“God so loved the world…”

We have to maintain our soul open to the fact of God’s creative purpose, and not muddle it with our own intentions. If we do, God will have to crush our intentions on one side however much it may hurt. The purpose for which the missionary is created is that he may be God’s servant, one in whom God is glorified. When once we realize that through the salvation of Jesus Christ we are made perfectly fit for God, we shall understand why Jesus Christ is so ruthless in His demands. He demands absolute rectitude from His servants, because He has put in them the very nature of God.

Beware lest you forget God’s purpose for your life.

 

O Lord, I would beseech Thee to bring me into living union with

Thy purpose for these Huts I am in charge of. Anoint me afresh for

this day in all its opportunity. Let me see Thy salvation at work.

                                그의 종으로 지으신 이시요.”

                                                                                                                       이사야 49:5

 

그리스도 예수 안에서 우리가 하나님께 용납되었음을 깨달은 후 발생하는 첫 번째 사건은 우리의 편견과 편협한 관념과 애국심의 파멸입니다. 우리는 하나님 자신의 목적을 위한 종으로 바뀝니다. 영원히 하나님께 영광을 돌리고 하나님을 기뻐하기 위하여 온 인류가 창조되었습니다. 죄가 인류를 다른 괘도로 방향을 틀어놨습니다. 그러나 그로 인해 하나님의 목적은 조금도 변하지 않았습니다. 그리하여 우리가 거듭날 때 인류를 위한 하나님의 위대한 목적 즉, 나는 하나님을 위해서 창조되고 주님께서 나를 만드셨다는 것을 깨닫게 되는 것입니다. 하나님께 용납되었음을 인식하는 것이 이 세상에서 가장 기쁜 깨달음입니다. 그러므로 우리는 하나님의 놀라운 창조적 목적을 신뢰할 줄 알아야 합니다. 우리와 함께 하나님께서 이루실 첫 번째 일은 온 세상의 관심사들을 “한 마음의 통로들을 통해 주권적으로 밀고 나아가시는 것입니다.” 하나님의 본질인 하나님의 사랑이 우리 안에 들어오고 전능하신 하나님의 본성이 “하나님께서 세상을 이처럼 사랑하사…”라고 요한복음 3장 16절에 요약되어 있습니다.

하나님의 창조적 목적에 대한 사실에 우리 영혼을 열어놓고 우리 자신의 생각들로 그것을 혼란스럽게 하지 말아야 합니다. 만일 우리가 그런다면 설령 상처가 아무리 클지라도 하나님께서는 한편으로 우리의 생각들을 깨트리셔야 할 것입니다. 선교사에게 주어지는 목적은 그가 하나님께 영광을 돌리는 주님의 종이 되도록 하는 것입니다. 예수 그리스도의 구원을 통해 하나님께 온전히 합당한 자로 우리가 만들어짐을 깨닫게 될 때 예수 그리스도께서 그토록 가차 없이 요구하시는 이유를 우리가 이해할 수 있을 것입니다. 주님께서는 주님의 종들에게 절대적인 정직을 요구하십니다. 왜냐하면 주님께서 바로 그러한 하나님의 본성을 그들 안에 심어놓으셨기 때문입니다.

여러분의 삶을 위한 하나님의 목적을 잊지 않도록 조심하세요.

 

오오 주님, 제가 돌보는 오두막들을 위한 주님의 목적 달성을 위해

활발하게 결합되게 하옵소서. 오늘을 위해 그것의 모든 기회 가운데서

사명을 감당할 수 있도록 저를 새롭게 하옵소서. 주님의 구원이

역사하심을 보게 하옵소서.
