THE UNBLAMABLE ATTITUDE

“If…thou rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee….”

                                                  Mathew 5:23

 

If when you come to the altar, there you remember that you brother has anything against you, not—if you rake up something by a morbid sensitiveness, but—“If thou rememberest,” that is, if it is brought to your conscious mind by the Spirit of God: “first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.” Never object to the intense sensitiveness of the Spirit of God in you when he is educating you down to the scruple.

“First be reconciled to thy brother…” Our Lord’s direction is simple, “first be reconciled.” Go back the way you came, go the way indicated to you by the conviction given at the altar; have an attitude of mind and a temper of soul to the one who has something against you that makes reconciliation as natural as breathing. Jesus does not mention the other person, He says—you go. There is no question of your rights. The stamp of the saint is that he can waive his own rights and obey the Lord Jesus.

“And then come and offer thy gift.” The process is clearly marked. First, the heroic spirit of self-sacrifice, then the sudden checking by the sensitiveness of the Holy Spirit, and the stoppage at the point of conviction, then the way of obedience to the word of God, constructing an unblamable    attitude of mind and temper to the one with whom you have been in the wrong; then the glad, simple, unhindered offering of your gift to God.

 

“Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.”

How certainly all might wisdom is Thine, and how certainly by Thy grace

I am eager for Thee to have Thy way through me.

 결백한 태도

“만일…형제에게 원망들을 만한 일이 있는 것이 생각나거든.”

                                                                                                                         마태복음 5:23

 

만일, 예물을 드리려고 제단에 왔을 때 여러분의 형제에게 원망들을 만한 일이 있는 것이 거기서 생각나거든, 그러나 병적인 민감함으로 무엇인가를 생각해내는 것이 아니고 성령의 감동에 따라 여러분의 의식적인 마음에 “만일 생각나거든 먼저 형제와 화해하고 그 후에 와서 예물을 드리라.” 양심의 가책을 느낄 정도로 철저히 가르치고 계시는 성령의 엄중한 민감함을 절대로 거부하지 마세요.

“먼저 네 형제와 화목하라…” 우리 주님의 가르침은 간단 명료합니다. “먼저 화목하라,” 네가 왔던 길로 돌아가서 제단에서 받은 확신에 의해 네게 보여준 방법 대로 행하라. 네게 대해 원한을 품은 사람에게 화해를 호흡처럼 당연한 것으로 만드는 마음의 태도와 영혼의 기질을 네게 대해 원한을 품은 사람에게 행사하라. 예수님께서 다른 사람을 지적하지 않으시고 “네”가 가라고 이르십니다. 여러분의 권리는 문제되지 않습니다. 자신의 권리를 포기하고 주 예수님에게 순종할 수 있는 것이 성도의 증표입니다.

“그런 다음에 와서 예물을 드려라.” 이 과정을 분명하게 말해주고 있습니다. 첫째, 자기 희생의 영웅적인 정신, 그런 다음 성령의 민감한 감동에 의한 갑작스런 견제, 그리하여 확신이 드는 순간에 중지, 그런 다음 하나님의 말씀에 순종함으로써 여러분과 좋지 않은 관계에 있던 사람에 대해 마음과 기질의 결백한 태도를 형성함. 그런 다음 즐겁고, 단순하고, 방해 받지 않고 여러분이 하나님께 예물을 드리게 되는 것입니다.

 

“우리 주님은 위대하고 전능하십니다. 주님의 이해력은 무한하십니다,”

모든 권능과 지혜가 확실히 주님의 것이며, 또한 주님께서 저를 통해

역사하시기를 제가 열망하는 것도 주님의 은총에 의해서임이 얼마나

확실한지요.
