THE BOW IN THE CLOUD

 

“I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a

                covenant between Me and the earth."

Genesis 9:13

                                                  

   It is the will of God that human beings should get into moral relationship with him, and His covenants are for this purpose. Why does not God save me? He has saved me, but I have not entered into relationship with Him. Why does not God do this and that? He has done it, the point is-Will I step into covenant relationship? All the great blessings of God are finished and complete, but they are not mine until I enter into relationship with Him on the basis of His covenant.

   Waiting for God is incarnate unbelief, it means that I have no faith in Him; I wait for Him to do something in me that I may trust in that. God will not do it, because that is not the basis of the God-and-man relationship. Man has to go out of himself I his covenant with God as God goes out of Himself in His covenant with man. It is a question of faith in God-the rarest thing; we have faith only in our feelings. I do not believe God unless He will give me something in my hand whereby I may know I have it, then I say-“Now I believe.” There is no faith there. “Look unto Me, and be ye saved.”

   When I have really transacted business with God on His covenant and have let go entirely, there is no sense of merit, no human ingredient in it all, but a complete overwhelming sense of being brought into union with God, and the whole thing is transfigured with peace and joy.

  

       Lord, touch with energizing power and sweet loving-

kindness and beauty all our lives today; make it a time

of the unveiling of Thy Face and power.

구름 속의 무지개

 

“내가 내 무지개를 구름 속에 두었나니 이것이

                  나와 세상 사이의 언약의 증거니라.”

창세기 9:13

 

인간들이 하나님과 도덕적인 관계를 맺어야 한다는 것이 하나님의 뜻입니다. 하나님의 언약들은 이 목적을 위해 존재합니다. 왜 하나님이 나를 구원하시지 않는가?하나님이 나를 구원하셨습니다. 그러나 내가 주님과의 관계 속으로 들어가지 않았습니다. 왜 하나님이 이것과 저것을 하시지 않는가?" 하나님은 그 일을 완료하셨습니다. 문제의 핵심은 내가 언약 관계로 들어갈 것인가 하는 것입니다. 하나님의 위대한 축복들은 종결되었고 완성되었습니다. 그러나 내가 하나님의 언약에 근거하여 내가 하나님과 관계를 맺을 때까지는 그 축복들은 내 것이 아닙니다.

하나님을 기다리고 있는 것은 육신에 속한 불신입니다. 그것은 내가 하나님에 대해 믿음이 없다는 뜻입니다. 내가 믿을 수 있는 무엇인가를 주님이 내 안에 행하시기를 내가 기다립니다. 하나님은 그 일을 하지 아니 하실 것입니다. 왜냐하면 그것은 하나님과 인간 관계의 기본이 아니기 때문입니다. 하나님이 인간과 언약을 맺기 위해 스스로 나아오시듯이 인간도 하나님과의 언약을 위해 스스로 나아가야 합니다. 그것은 하나님에 대한 믿음의 문제인데, 즉 자발적으로 스스로 나아가는 믿음은 가장 드문 일입니다. 우리는 우리의 느낌만을 믿습니다. 내가 가지고 있다는 것을 알 수 있도록 하나님이 무엇인가를 내 손에 쥐어주지 아니하시면 나는 하나님을 믿지 않습니다. 손에 쥐고 난 그런 다음에 “이제는 내가 믿습니다”라고 나는 말합니다. 거기에는 믿음이 없습니다. “나를 앙망하라. 그리하면 구원을 얻으리라.”

내가 정말 하나님의 언약을 근거로 하여 하나님과 교제를 맺고 전적으로 신뢰할 때에는 공로 의식도 없고, 인간적인 요소도 전혀 없으며, 그 대신 하나님과 연합되었다는 넘치는 감격이 있고 모든 것이 희락과 화평으로 거룩하게 됩니다.

 

주님, 활기 있게 하는 능력과 달콤한 사랑하는 자비와 아름다움으로

우리 생명 모두를 오늘 만져주시옵소서. 그리하여 주님의 능력과

얼굴의 베일을 벗는 시간이 되도록 축복하옵소서.
