THE TEMPLE OF THE HOLY GHOST

 

“Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto

                thy word shall all my people be ruled:

             only in the throne will I be greater than thou.”

                                                                                                                 Genesis 41:40

                                                  

   I have to account to God for the way in which I rule my body under His domination. Paul said he did not “frustrate the grace of God”-make it of no effect. The grace of God is absolute, the salvation of Jesus is perfect, it is done forever. I am not being saved, I am saved; salvation is as eternal as God’s throne; the thing for me to do is to work out what God works in. “Work out your own salvation,” I am responsible for doing it. It means that I have to manifest in this body the life of the Lord Jesus, not mystically, but really and emphatically. “I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection.” Every saint can have his body under absolute control for God. God has made us to have government over all the temple of the Holy Spirit, over imaginations and affections. We are responsible for these, and we must never give way to inordinate affections. Most of us are much sterner with others than we are in regard to our selves; we make excuses for things in ourselves whilst we condemn in others things to which we are not naturally inclined.

   “I beseech you,” says Paul, “present your bodies a living sacrifice.” The point to decide is this-“Do I agree with my Lord and Master that my body shall be His temple?” If so, then for me the whole of the law for the body is summed up in this revelation, that my body is the temple of the Holy Ghost.

 

  

   Lord, how dim and distant dreary my physical life seems,

and is, without Thee; fill the outer courts with Thy Divine life.

성령의 전

“너는 내 집을 다스리라 내 백성이 다 네 명령에 복종하리니

                내가 너보다 높은 것은 내 왕좌뿐이니라.”

창세기 41:40

 

나는 주님의 지배하에 있는 내 몸을 관리하는 방법에 대해 하나님께 내가 책임을 져야 합니다. 바울은 자신이 “하나님의 은혜를 좌절시키지” 아니하였다, 즉 아무 효과도 없는 것으로 만들지 않았다 라고 말했습니다. 하나님의 은혜는 절대적이고, 예수님의 구원은 완전하며, 그것은 영원히 이루어진 것입니다. 나에 대한 구원이 현재 진행중인 상태에 있는 것이 아니고, 나는 이미 구원을 받아 지금 구원을 누리고 있는 상태입니다. 그 구원은 하나님의 보좌와 같이 영원합니다. 하나님이 안에서 행하시는 것이 효력을 발휘하도록 성취하는 것은 내가 해야 할 일입니다. "너희 자신의 구원을 성취하라.”(빌2:12) 구원이 실효성이 있도록 하는 것은 나의 책임입니다. 이것은 신비적으로가 아니고 실제적으로 철저하게 주 예수님의 생명을 내가 내 몸을 통하여 분명하게 보여주어야 한다는 뜻입니다. "내가 내 몸을 쳐 복종하게 함은."(고전 9:27) 성도는 누구나 하나님을 위해 자기 몸을 완전한 통제하에 둘 수 있습니다. 하나님은 성령의 전 모두와 애착과 상상의 영역을 지배하도록 우리를 만드셨습니다. 이것들에 대해선 우리가 책임을 져야 하며, 터무니없는 애착에 우리가 결코 무너져서는 안 됩니다. 우리 대부분은 자신들에 관해서보다는 다른 사람들에게 훨씬 더 엄격합니다. 우리는 우리 성미에 잘 맞지 않는 다른 사람들의 사정에 대해서는 비난하는 반면, 우리 자신의 사정에 대해서는 변명합니다.

바울은 "내가 여러분에게 간청합니다,” “여러분의 몸을 하나님이 기뻐하시는 거룩한 산 제물로 드리십시오"(롬 12:1)라고 말합니다. 결정할 핵심은 이것입니다. 즉 “나는 나의 주인이신 나의 주님께 동의하여 내 몸을 성령의 전이 되게 하는가?” 만일 그렇다면 몸에 대한 모든 율법은 내 몸은 성령의 전이라는 이 계시에 요약되어 있습니다.

 

주님, 제 육체적 삶이 주님 없이는 얼마나 어둠침침하고

가물가물하고 따분한지 모릅니다. 왕궁의 외부를 주님의

신성한 생명으로 가득 채워 주시옵소서.
