YESTERDAY

“The God of Israel will be your reward.”

                                                                                Isaiah 52:12

 

   Security from Yesterday. “God requireth that which is past.” At the end of the year we turn with eagerness to all that God has for the future, and yet anxiety is apt to arise from remembering the yesterdays. Our present enjoyment of God’s grace is apt to be checked by the memory of yesterday’s sins and blunders. But God is the God of our yesterdays, and He allows the memory of them in order to turn the past into a ministry of spiritual culture for the future. God reminds us of the past lest we get into a shallow security in the present.

   Security for To-morrow. “For the Lord will go before you.” This is a gracious revelation, that God will garrison where you have failed to. He will watch lest things trip us up again into like failure, as they assuredly would do if He were not our reward. God’s hand reaches back to the past and makes a clearing-house for conscience.

   Security for To-day.  “For ye shall not go out with haste.” As we go forth into the coming year, let it not be in the haste of impetuous, unremembering delight, nor with the flight of impulsive thoughtlessness, but with the patient power of knowing that the God of Israel will go before us. Our yesterdays present irreparable things to us; it is true that we have lost opportunities which will never return, but God can transform this destructive anxiety into a constructive thoughtfulness for the future. Let the past sleep, but let it sleep on the bosom of Christ.

   Leave the Irreparable Past in His hands, and step out into the Irresistible Future with Him.

 

        Lord Jesus, “in Thee dwelleth all the fullness of God”;

“all things have been delivered unto Thee”; “all power

is given unto Thee in heaven and in earth”-O God,

my heavenly Father, supply my every need according

to Thy riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

“이스라엘의 하나님이 너희 뒤에 호위하시리니”

                 이사야 52:12

 

과거로부터의 안전 보장. “하나님은 이미 지난 것을 다시 찾으시느니라.”(전 3:15) 연말이 되면 우리는 하나님이 미래를 위해 준비하고 계시는 모든 것에 간절한 마음으로 도움을 청합니다. 그러나 과거를 기억하면 아직도 걱정이 생기기 쉽습니다. 지난 해의 죄악들과 실수들에 관한 기억이 현재 하나님의 은혜를 누리는 것을 방해하기 쉽습니다. 그러나 하나님은 우리의 과거의 하나님이시고, 또한 하나님은 과거가 미래를 위한 정신문화의 목회에 쓰임 받도록 하시기 위해서 그러한 과거의 기억을 허락하십니다. 하나님은 우리가 현재의 천박한 안보에 빠지지 않도록 우리에게 과거를 생각나게 하십니다.

미래를 향한 안전 보장. “여호와께서 너희 앞에 행하시며.” 이것은 우리가 실패했던 그 곳을 하나님께서 친히 호위하시겠다는 자비로운 계시의 말씀입니다. 사태가 우리를 실패하게 하지 않도록 하나님께서 우리를 지켜보실 것입니다. 만일  주님께서 호위하지 않으시면 사태가 분명히 우리를 실패하게 만들 것입니다. 하나님의 손은 과거까지 기억을 거슬러 오르셔서 양심을 위한 정보 교환소를 만드십니다.

오늘을 위한 안전 보장. "너희가 황급히 나오지 아니하며.” 우리가 새해를 맞이할 때 성급하게 과거를 잊고 기쁨에 도취되어 허둥대지 말고, 충동적인 무분별로 내닫지 말고, 이스라엘의 하나님께서 우리보다 앞장서 인도하실 것이라는 믿음으로 인내심을 가지고 맞이하십시오. 우리의 과거는 돌이킬 수 없는 사태를 우리에게 제시합니다. 결코 돌아오지 않을 기회들을 우리가 잃었다는 것은 사실입니다. 그러나 하나님께서는 이러한 파괴적인 염려를 미래를 향한 건설적인 분별력으로 바꾸실 수 있습니다. 이제 과거는 잠들게 하십시오. 그러나 주님의 품에서 잠들게 하십시오.

이제 돌이킬 수 없는 과거는 주님의 손에 맡기고 좋든 싫든 다가 오는 미래를 향해 주님과 함께 발걸음을 크게 떼십시오.

 

      주 예수님, “하나님의 모든 충만이 주님 안에 있습니다”

“모든 것이 주님을 향하여 구원되었습니다” 하늘과 땅에서

모든 능력이 주님에게 부여됩니다” 오오 하나님, 하늘에 계신

나의 아버지, 그리스도 예수 안의 영광 가운데 있는 주님의

풍족함에 따라 저의 모든 필요를 공급하여 주시옵소서.
