WORSHIP

 

“And he pitched his tent having Bethel on the west and Ai on

                 the east: and there he builded an altar.”

                                                                                                                        Genesis 12:8

 

   Worship is giving God the best that he has given you. Be careful what you do with the best you have. Whenever you get a blessing from God, give it back to Him as a love gift. Take time to meditate before God and offer the blessing back to him in a deliberate act of worship. If you hoard a thing for yourself, it will turn into spiritual dry rot, as the manna did when it was hoarded. God will never let you hold a spiritual thing for yourself, it has to be given back to Him that he may make it a blessing to others.

   Bethel is the symbol of communion with God; Ai is the symbol of the world. Abraham pitched his tent between the two. The measure of the worth of our public activity for God is the private profound communion we have with Him. Rush is wrong every time, there is always plenty of time to worship God. Quiet days with God may be a snare. We have to pitch our tents where we shall always have quiet times with God, however noisy our times with the world may be. There are not three stages in spiritual life-worship, waiting and work. Some of us go in jumps like spiritual frogs, we jump from worship to waiting, and from waiting to work. God’s idea is that the three should go together. They were always together in the life of Our Lord. He was unhasting and unresting. It is a discipline, we cannot get into it all at once.

 

           Lord, how I realize the peril of work and activity equally

with that of quiet and retirement, and that the only secure

haven is Thyself. Help me to be taken up altogether with Thee.

“거기서 벧엘 동쪽 산으로 옮겨 장막을 치니 서쪽은 벧엘이요 동쪽은

                   아이라 그가 그 곳에서 여호와께 제단을 쌓고 여호와의 이름을 부르더니.”

예배는 하나님께서 당신에게 주신 가장 좋은 것을 하나님께 드리는 것입니다. 당신이 소유한 가장 좋은 것을 처리하는 방법을 조심하십시오. 당신이 하나님으로부터 축복을 받을 때는 언제라도 그것을 사랑의 선물로 주님께 돌려드리십시오. 하나님 앞에서 묵상하는 시간을 갖고 예배하는 신중한 행위로 그 축복을 하나님께 돌려드리십시오. 만일 당신이 어떤 것을 당신을 위해 몰래 저장한다면 만나가 욕심껏 저장되었을 때 그랬던 것처럼 영적으로 썩어 말라 죽을 것입니다. 하나님께서는 당신이 영적인 것을 당신 자신을 위해 소유하는 것을 허락하시지 않을 것입니다. 그것은 하나님께서 다른 사람들에게 축복으로 활용하실 수 있도록 하나님께 되돌려드리지 않으면 안 됩니다.

베델은 하나님과 영적 교제의 상징입니다. 아이는 세상의 상징입니다. 아브라함은 그 둘 사이에 그의 장막을 쳤습니다. 하나님을 위한 우리의 공적 활동의 가치 척도는 우리가 하나님과 개인적으로 갖는 심오한 교제입니다. 매번 조급하게 서두는 것은 잘못된 것입니다. 하나님을 예배할 시간은 항상 많습니다. 하나님과 함께 하는 조용한 날들은 덫이 될 수 있습니다. 우리가 세상과 함께 하는 시간이 아무리 시끄러울지라도 우리가 항상 하나님과 조용한 시간을 가져야 될 곳에 우리 장막을 치지 않으면 안 됩니다. 영적 삶에는 예배, 기다림 그리고 사역의 세 단계가 있는 게 아닙니다. 우리 중 어떤 사람들은 영적 개구리들처럼 깡충깡충 뛰어갑니다. 우리는 예배에서 기다림으로 펄쩍 뛰어오르고, 그리고 기다림에서 사역으로 펄쩍 뛰어오릅니다. 하나님의 아이디어는 이 세 가지가 함께 가야 한다는 것입니다. 우리 주님의 생애에서는 그들이 항상 함께 있었습니다. 주님은 서둘지 아니하셨고 쉬지 않으셨습니다. 그것은 훈련입니다. 우리는 그것을 모두 한꺼번에 달성할 수는 없습니다.

 

       주님, 물러나 쉬는 것의 위험과 똑같이 사역과 활동의 위험을 제가

       정말 깨닫게 되고 확실한 안식처는 주님뿐임을 참으로 알게 됩니다.

주님과 함께 동행하도록 도와주시옵소서.
