DOES MY SACRIFICE LIVE? 

“And Abraham built an altar…and bound Isaac his son.”

                                                                                                                   Genesis 22:9

 

   This incident is a picture of the blunder we make in thinking that the final thing God wants of us is the sacrifice of death. What God wants is the sacrifice through death which enables us to do what Jesus did, viz., sacrifice our lives. Not-I am willing to go to death Thee, but-I am willing to be identified with Thy death so that I may sacrifice my life to God. We seem to think that God wants us to give up things! God purified Abraham from this blunder, and the same discipline goes on in our lives. God nowhere tells us to give up things for the sake of giving them up. He tells us to give them up for the sake of the only thing worth having-viz., life with Himself. It is a question of loosening the bands that hinder the life, and immediately those bands are loosened by identification with the death of Jesus, we enter into a relationship with God whereby we can sacrifice our lives to Him.

   It is of no value to God to give Him your life for death. He wants you to be a “living sacrifice,” to let Him have all your powers that have been saved and sanctified through Jesus. This is the thing that is acceptable to God.

 

          Lord, I praise Thee for this day’s glad opportunity of

serving Thee acceptably. I bless Thee for the revealing

of the truth that Thine order comes moment by moment

in the day’s life.

나의 희생 제물은 살아있는가?

“ 아브라함이 제단을 쌓고 … 그의 아들 이삭을 결박하였다.”

창세기 22:9

이 사건은 하나님께서 우리에게 원하시는 것은 죽음의 희생이라고 생각하는 데서 우리가 저지르는 큰 실수를 묘사한 그림입니다. 예수님의 경우처럼 즉 우리의 목숨을 바치는 죽음을 통한 희생을 하나님께서 원하신다는 내용입니다. 내가 기꺼이 주님과 함께 죽으러 가겠습니다 라는 의미가 아니고, 내가 나의 생명을 하나님을 위해 희생하기 위해 내가 기꺼이 주님의 죽음과 연합되겠다는 뜻입니다. (역자 주: 예수님의 죽음과 함께 나도 죽었다고 믿고 예수님의 부활과 함께 나도 새로운 피조물로 거듭남으로써 이후로는 나의 모든 능력과 전 존재를 하나님의 영광을 드러내기 위해 사용되도록 전적으로 바치겠다는 뜻인 것입니다) 우리는 하나님께서 우리가 모든 것을 포기하길 원하신다고 생각하는 것 같습니다. 하나님께서는 이 큰 실수로부터 아브라함을 정화해주셨고 동일한 훈련이 우리의 삶에서 계속 진행되고 있습니다. 하나님께서는 사물 자체의 포기를 위한 포기를 하라고 우리에게 절대로 말씀하시지 않습니다. 오직 소유할만한 가치가 있는 주님과 연합하는 생명을 누리기 위해서만 포기하라고 말씀하십니다. 그것은 생명을 방해하는 속박을 푸는 문제입니다. 예수님의 죽음과 함께 죽음으로써 그 속박들이 풀려지는 즉시 우리는 하나님과 교제가 이루어지게 되고 그에 따라 우리는 우리 생명을 하나님에게 희생제물로 바칠 수 있게 되는 것입니다.

당신의 생명을 죽임 자체를 위한 제물로 주님에게 바치는 것은 하나님께는 아무런 가치가 없습니다. 당신이 “살아있는 희생제물”이 됨으로써 예수님을 통해서 구원받고 거룩하게 된 당신의 능력 모두를 주님이 사용할 수 있도록 헌신하기를 하나님께서는 원하십니다. 이것이 바로 하나님이 기뻐 받으시는 희생 제물인 것입니다.

 

     주님, 제가 오늘 주님을 기쁘게 해드릴 수 있는 기회로 인하여

주님을 찬양합니다. 주님의 섭리가 하루의 삶 속에서 순간순간

나타나도록 진리를 계시해주심에 대하여 주님께 감사 드립니다.
