THE OPENED SIGHT

“To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from

                  the power  of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins,

                  and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.”

                                                                                                                                 Acts 26:18

 

   The first sovereign work of grace is summed up in the words, “that they may receive remission of sins.” When a man fails in personal Christian experience, it is nearly always because he has never received anything. The only sign that a man is saved is that he has received something from Jesus Christ. Our part as workers for God is to open men’s eyes that they may turn themselves form darkness to light; but that is not salvation, that is conversion-the effort of a roused human being. I do not think it is sweeping to say that the majority of nominal Christians are of this order; their eyes are opened, but they have received nothing. Conversion is not regeneration. This is one of the neglected factors in our preaching today. When a man is born again, he knows that it is because he has received something as a gift from Almighty God and not because of his own decision. People register their vows, and sign their pledges, and determine to go through, but none of this is salvation. Salvation means that we are brought to the place where we are able to receive something from God on the authority of Jesus Christ, viz., remission of sins.

   Then there follows the second mighty work of grace-“and inheritance among them which are sanctified.” In sanctification the regenerated soul deliberately gives up his right to himself to Jesus Christ, and identifies himself entirely with God’s interest in other men.

 

       O Lord, for greater sweetness and beauty of

      Character; for the gift of spiritual energy and full-

      patienced life towards others. Thy beauty, manifest

      them, O Lord; instinct with Thee I would be indeed.

열린 시야

“그 눈을 뜨게 하여 어둠에서 빛으로, 사탄의 권세에서 하나님께로

                       돌아오게 하고 죄 사함과 나를 믿어 거룩하게 된 무리 가운데서

                 기업을 얻게 하리라 하더이다.”

사도행전 26:18

 

은총의 첫 번째 주권적 역사는 “그들이 죄의 용서를 받을 수 있게 된다.”는 말씀으로 요약됩니다. 어떤 사람이 크리스천으로서 인격적 체험을 하지 못할 때는 그것은 거의 항상 그가 어떠한 것도 하나님으로부터 받은 것이 없기 때문입니다. 사람이 구원받는다는 유일한 표시는 그가 예수 그리스도로부터 무엇인가를 받았다는 것이다. 하나님을 위한 일꾼으로서 우리의 역할은 사람들의 눈을 뜨게 하여 그들이 스스로 어둠에서 빛으로 돌아설 수 있게 돕는 것입니다. 그러나 그것은 구원이 아닙니다. 그것은 변화입니다. 의식이 회복된 인간의 노력의 결과인 변화인 것입니다. 명목상의 크리스천의 다수는 이 종류에 속한다고 말해도 과언이 아니라고 나는 생각합니다. 그들의 눈은 열렸습니다만 그들이 받은 건 아무 것도 없습니다. 변화는 영적으로 거듭나는 것이 아닙니다. 이것은 오늘 날 우리의 설교에서는 등한시되고 있는 요소들 중의 하나입니다. 어떤 사람이 영적으로 거듭날 때는 그 자신의 결정 때문이 아니라 전능하신 하나님으로부터 선물로서 무엇인가를 받았기 때문에 거듭난다는 것을 그가 알고 있습니다. 사람들은 그들의 맹세를 등록하고 서약에 서명하고 실행하기로 결심합니다. 그러나 이 중의 어느 것도 구원에 해당하지 않습니다. 구원은 예수 그리스도를 근거로 하여 하나님으로부터 무엇인가 즉 죄의 용서를 우리가 받을 수 있는 지점까지 인도되었다는 사실을 의미합니다.

그런 다음 “거룩하게 되는 그들 가운데서 기업으로 상속됨”의 두 번째 능력 있는 은총의 역사가 뒤이어 일어납니다. 성화가 되면 거듭난 영혼은 자신에 대한 권리를 의식적으로 예수 그리스도에게 양도하고 다른 사람들에게 기울이는 하나님의 관심에 자기 자신을 완전히 일치시킵니다.

 

       오오 주님, 인격의 아름다움과 더 훌륭한 달콤함을 위하여,

다른 사람들을 향해 최대한으로 인내하는 삶과 영적 에너지의

선물을 위하여. 오오 주님, 주님의 아름다움을 나타내주시옵소서.

제가 진실로 주님으로 충만하여 약동하기를 원하옵니다.
