THE VOCATION OF

NATURAL LIFE

 

“But when it pleased God . . . to reveal His son in me . . .”

Galatians 1:15-16

 

The call of God is not a call to any particular service; my interpretation of it may be because contact with the nature of God has made me realize what I would like to do for Him. The call of God is essentially expressive of His nature; service is the outcome of what is fitted to my nature. The vocation of the natural life is stated by the apostle Paul, “When it pleased God to reveal His Son in me that I might preach Him” (i.e., sacramentally express) “among the Gentiles.”

Service is the overflow of superabounding devotion; but, profoundly speaking, there is no call to that, it is my own little actual bit and is the echo of my identification with the nature of God. Service is the natural part of my life. God gets me into a relationship with Himself whereby I understand His call, then I do things out of sheer love for Him on my own account. To serve God is the deliberate love-gift of a nature that has heard the call of God. Service is expressive of that which is fitted to my nature: God’s call is expressive of His nature; consequently when I receive His nature and hear His call, the voice of the Divine nature sounds in both and the two work together. The Son of God reveals Himself in me, and I serve Him in the ordinary ways of life out of devotion to Him.

 

 

         “Lord, Thy word comes so quietly and  all-

pervadingly-“If any man serve Me, let him follow

Me,” and, “If any man serve Me, him will My Father

Honour.” Take me as Thy servant in this sense.

일상 생활의 소명

“그의 은혜로 나를 부르신 이가 그의 아들을 이방에 전하기

                위하여 그를 내 속에 나타내시기를 기뻐하셨을 때에”

갈라디아서 1:15-16

 

하나님의 부르심은 어느 특정한 섬김을 지칭하지 않습니다. 하나님의 본성을 만난 결과 내가 주님을 위해 하고 싶은 일이 무엇이라는 걸 깨닫게 되었기 때문에 내가 주님의 영광을 위해 할 일이 무엇인지 결정할 수 있을 것입니다. 하나님의 부르심은 본질적으로 주님의 본성을 표현합니다. 섬김은 나의 본성에 적합한 것의 결과입니다. 일상생활의 소명에 대해 “그 아들을 내가 이방인들에게 전파하도록(즉, 신성하게 나타내도록) 하기 위해 그의 아들을 내 속에 나타내시기를 하나님이 기뻐하셨을 때에…”(갈 1:16) 일상생활 가운데서 부르심을 받는 것이라고 바울에 의해 서술되어 있습니다.

봉사는 남아도는 헌신의 자연스런 흘러 넘침을 의미합니다. 그러나 심오하게 말한다면 봉사에 대한 부르심이 있는 것이 아니며, 봉사는 내가 하나님의 본성과 일치된 결과의 메아리로 자연스럽게 발생하는 내 자신의 실질적인 작은 행위인 것입니다. 봉사는 내 생활의 당연한 부분입니다. 하나님께서 나를 주님과의 관계 속으로 끌어들임으로써 나는 주님의 부르심을 깨달은 다음에 내가 단순히 주님을 사랑하기 때문에 내 스스로 일들을 하는 것입니다. 하나님께 헌신한다는 것은 하나님의 부르심을 듣고 기쁨에 넘쳐서 내가 의식적으로 하나님께 사랑의 선물을 드리는 본성의 행동입니다. 봉사는 나의 본성에 적합한 바로 그것을 보여 주는 것입니다. 하나님의 부르심은 주님의 본성을 보여 줍니다. 결과적으로 거듭남을 통해 내가 주님의 본성을 받고 주님의 부르심을 들을 때, 하나님과 나의 둘 속에 하나님의 신성한 본성의 목소리가 나고 성령 하나님과 나의 두 실재가 함께 역사하는 것입니다. 그러면 하나님의 아들 즉 주 예수 그리스도께서 내 안에 성령으로 나타나시고 나는 주님에 대한 헌신의 결단에서 삶의 일상적인 방법으로 주님을 섬기는 것입니다. 

 

       주님, “누구든지 만일 나를 섬기면, 그가 나를 따르게 하라,”

그리고, “누구든지 만일 나를 섬기면, 나의 영광의

아버지께서 그를 돌보시리라.”라고 주님의 말씀이 아주

조용하게 널리 퍼집니다. 이런 의미로 저를 주님의 종으로

데려가시옵소서.
