FAINT AND DYING?

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose imagination is

                stayed on Thee.”

Isaiah 26:3 R.V. marg.

 

Is your imagination stayed on God or is it starved? The starvation of the imagination is one of the most fruitful sources of exhaustion and sapping in a worker’s life. If you have never used your imagination to put yourself before God, begin to do it now. It is no use waiting for God to come; you must put your imagination away from the face of idols and look unto Him and be saved. Imagination is the greatest gift God has given us and it ought to be devoted entirely to Him. If you have been bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, it will be one of the greatest assets to faith when the time of trial comes, because your faith and the Spirit of God will work together. Learn to associate ideas worthy of God with all that happens in Nature—the sunrises and the sunsets, the sun and the stars, the changing seasons, and your imagination will never be at the mercy of your impulses, but will always be at the service of God.

“We have sinned with our fathers; . . . and have forgotten”—then put a stiletto in the place where you have gone to sleep. “God is not talking to me just now,” but He ought to be. Remember Whose you are and Whom you serve. Provoke yourself by recollection, and your affection for God will increase tenfold; your imagination will not be starved any longer, but will be quick and enthusiastic, and your hope will be inexpressibly bright.

 

  O Lord, with the coming of spring of Nature my

spirit longs that Thy energizing life may flow in and

through me more, and still yet more. But how un-

beautiful I am, how un-Christian! And yet it is not in

depression, but in amazing hope I see this.

“상상력이 주께 견고하게 머무는 자를 완전한 평강을

                누리도록 주께서 지켜주실 것입니다.”

당신의 상상력이 하나님께 머물러 있습니까 그렇지 않으면 고갈되었습니까? 상상력의 고갈은 사역자의 생명을 서서히 약화시키는 영적 탈진 상태를 초래하는 가장 강력한 원천입니다. 만일 당신이 당신 자신을 하나님 앞에 드러내놓기 위해 당신의 상상력을 사용해 본 적이 없다면 지금 사용하도록 시작하십시오. 하나님께서 오시도록 기다려도 소용없습니다. 당신은 우상들의 얼굴로부터 당신의 상상력을 탈출시켜 주님을 바라보고 구원 받지 않으면 안 됩니다. 상상력은 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 가장 위대한 선물이며 그것은 당연히 전적으로 주님에게 바쳐져야 합니다. 만일 당신이 모든 생각을 사로잡아 그리스도에게 복종하여 왔다면 시련이 닥칠 때 그것은 가장 훌륭한 믿음의 자산들 중 하나가 될 것입니다. 왜냐하면 당신의 믿음과 하나님의 성령이 합력하여 역사할 것이기 때문입니다. 하나님으로부터 인정 받을만한 가치가 있는 아이디어와 해가 뜨고 지는 것, 태양과 별들, 변하고 있는 계절들과 같은 자연 현상 모두를 결합시키는 방법을 배우십시오. 그러면 당신의 상상력은 당신의 충동에 좌우되지 않고 항상 하나님을 섬기는 일에 사용될 것입니다.

“우리가 우리 선조들과 함께 죄를 지었습니다. –그리고 잊어버렸습니다.” 그런 다음 우리가 잠자러 간 곳에 단검을 놓아뒀습니다. “하나님께서 바로 지금 나에게 말씀하고 계시지 않습니다,” 그러나 하나님께서 그렇게 하실 것이 틀림없습니다. 당신은 누구의 소유이며 당신이 누구를 섬기는지 기억하십시오. 과거를 돌아봄으로써 분발하십시오. 그러면 하나님에 대한 애정이 열 배로 증가할 것입니다. 당신의 상상력은 더 이상 고갈되지 않을 것이고 신속하고 열정적으로 되어 표현할 수 없을 정도로 당신의 소망이 밝아질 것입니다.

 

   오오 주님, 자연 가운데 봄이 옴과 더불어 주님의 약동하는

생명이 저를 통해서 더욱더 흘러 들어오기를 제 영이 갈망합니다.

그러나 제가 얼마나 아름답지 못하고 크리스천답지 못한지요!

그리고 아직은 그것이 암울함 속에 있지 않고 놀라운 희망 속에서

제가 이것을 상상합니다.
