THE WORSHIP OF THE WORK

“Labourers together with God."

                                                                                                 1 Corinthians 3:9

 

   Beware of any work for God which enables you to evade concentration on Him. A great many Christian workers worship their work. The one concern of a worker should be concentration on God, and this will mean that all the other margins of life, mental, moral and spiritual, are free with the freedom of a child, a worshipping child, not a wayward child. A worker without this solemn dominant note of concentration on God is apt to get his work on his neck; there is no margin of body, mind or spirit free, consequently he becomes spent out and crushed. There is no freedom, no delight in life; nerves, mind and heart are so crushingly burdened that God's blessing cannot rest. But the other side is just as true—when once the concentration is on God, all the margins of life are free and under the dominance of God alone. There is no responsibility on you for the work; the only responsibility you have is to keep in living constant touch with God, and to see that you allow nothing to hinder your cooperation with Him. The freedom after sanctification is the freedom of a child, the things that used to keep the life pinned down are gone. But be careful to remember that you are freed for one thing only—to be absolutely devoted to your co-Worker.

   We have no right to judge where we should be put, or to have preconceived notions as to what God is fitting us for. God engineers everything; wherever He put us our one great aim is to pour out a whole-hearted devotion to Him in that particular work. "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might."

 

   Lord, how like I am to the man who had nothing to

   set before the friend who came to him at midnight! So

   many are in need of emancipation and deliverance,

   undertake completely. Sweep through this place with

   Thy gracious presence.

사역 예찬

“하나님의 동역자들.”

                                                                                           고린도전서 3:9

 

   하나님을 위한 어떠한 사역도 당신으로 하여금 주님에 대한 집중을 곤란하게 하지 않도록 조심하라. 아주 많은 그리스도인 사역자들이 자신들의 사역을 예찬한다. 사역자의 한 가지 관심은 하나님에 대한 집중이어야 한다. 그러므로 이것은 정신적, 도덕적 및 영적 삶의 다른 여유들 모두가 제멋대로 행동하는 어린아이가 아니고 예배하는 어린아이의 자유의 속성에 따라 하나님의 사역에 아낌없이 대담하게 사용됨을 의미할 것이다. 하나님에 대한 집중을 가장 중요시하는 진정성이 결여된 사역자는 그의 사역에 실패하기 쉽다. 몸, 마음 또는 영이 자유롭게 사용할 여유가 없어 결과적으로 그는 탈진 상태가 되어 무너지고 만다. 삶에 자유가 없고 기쁨이 없다. 신경, 마음 그리고 열의가 근심 걱정으로 압도되어 하나님의 축복이 쉼을 얻을 수 없다. 그러나 다른 측면에서 볼 때도 같은 원리가 적용된다. 즉, 일단 하나님께 집중하게 되면 삶의 여유들 모두가 아깝지 않게 되어 하나님만의 지배하에 놓이게 된다. 사역에 대해서 당신에게는 책임이 없고 오로지 하나님과 끊임없이 살아있는 만남을 유지하면서 하나님과의 협력을 아무것도 방해하지 못하도록 하는 것이 당신이 져야할 책임이다. 성화 이후의 자유는 어린아이의 천진난만한 담대한 자유로서 단순하게 의심하지 않고 잘 믿는 순수한 자유다. 예전에 삶을 계속 옥죄었던 것들이 사라진다. 그렇지만 당신은 동역자인 주님에게 전적으로 헌신해야 한다는 한 가지만을 위해서 자유롭다는 사실을 기억하도록 깨어 있으라.

   우리가 어디에 배치되어야 하는지 판단할 권리가 우리에겐 없으며, 하나님께서 우리를 어떤 목적에 사용하실 작정이신지에 대한 선입견을 가질 권리도 우리에게는 없다. 하나님께서 모든 것을 섭리하신다. 주님께서 우리를 어디로 이끄시든지 우리의 위대한 하나의 목적은 그 특수한 사역을 위하여 온 마음을 바쳐 주님께 헌신하는 것이 되어야 한다. “네 손이 얻는 일은 무엇이든지 네 힘을 다하여 할지어다”(전 9:10).

 

   주님, 한밤중에 찾아온 친구 앞에 내놓을 것이 아무것도

   없었던 사람과 내가 무척 닮았지요! 그토록 많은 사람들이

   해방과 구원을 필요로 하오니 철저하게 보살펴주시옵소서.

   이곳을 주님의 은혜로운 임재로 충만하게 하옵소서.

4월 23일
