THE UNDEVIATING TEST

“For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and

                             with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you

                             again.”

                                             Matthew 7:2

 

This statement is not a haphazard guess, it is an eternal law of God. Whatever judgment you give, it is measured to you again. There is a difference between retaliation and retribution. Jesus says that the basis of life is retribution—“with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” If you have been shrewd in finding out the defects in others, remember that will be exactly the measure given to you. Life serves back in the coin you pay. This law works from God’s throne downwards (cf. Psalm 18:25-26).

Romans 2 applies it in a still more definite way, and says that the one who criticizes another is guilty of the very same thing. God looks not only at the act, He looks at the possibility. We do not believe the statements of the Bible to begin with. For instance, do we believe this statement, that the things we criticize in others we are guilty of ourselves? The reason we see hypocrisy and fraud and unreality in others is because they are all in our own hearts. The great characteristic of a saint is humility—Yes, all those things and other evils would have been manifested in me but for the grace of God; therefore I have no right to judge.

Jesus says—“Judge not, that ye be not judged”; if you do judge, it will be measured to you exactly as you have judged. Who of us would dare to stand before God and say—“My God, judge me as I have judged my fellow men”? We have judged our fellow men as sinners; if God should judge us like that we would be in hell. God judges us through the marvelous Atonement of Jesus Christ.

 

Oh, for one of those touches of Thy Spirit that, as the

wind, quicken, and awaken, loosen, and inspire!

빗나가지 않는 시험

“너희가 비판하는 그 비판으로 너희가 비판을 받을 것이요

                               너희가 헤아리는 그 헤아림으로 헤아림을 받을 것이니라.”

                                 마태복음 7:2

 

이 말씀은 우연의 추측이 아니다. 그것은 하나님의 영원한 법칙이다. 당신이 어떤 비판을 하든지 그것이 당신에게 다시 돌아온다. 보복과 인과응보는 다르다. 삶의 기초는 인과응보라고 예수님께서 다음과 같이 말씀하신다. “너희가 헤아리는 그 헤아림으로 헤아림을 받을 것이니라.” 만일 당신이 통찰력이 있어 다른 사람들의 결점을 찾아냈다면 이 평가 척도가 어김없이 당신에게게도 적용될 것이라는 것을 기억하라. 삶은 당신이 행한 대로 앙갚음한다. 이 법칙은 하나님의 보좌로부터 아래를 향하여 시행된다(시 18:25-26참조).

로마서 2장은 그것을 더욱 더 명확한 방법으로 적용하여 다른 사람을 비판하는 사람은 똑 같은 죄를 범하는 것이라고 말한다. 하나님께서는 행위를 보실 뿐만 아니라 가능성도 보신다. 처음에는 우리가 성경의 이 말씀을 믿지 않는다. 예를 들면, 다른 사람들의 잘못으로 우리가 비판한 것들을 우리도 범하고 있다는 이 말씀을 우리가 믿는가? 다른 사람들 안에서 위선과 사기와 비실재가 우리에게 보이는 이유는 그것들 모두가 우리들 자신의 마음 속에도 존재하기 때문이다. 성도의 훌륭한 특징은 겸손이다. 그렇다, 그 모든 것들과 다른 악들이 하나님의 은혜가 아니었더라면 내 안에 나타났을 것이다. 그러므로 나에게는 비판할 권리가 없다.

“비판을 받지 아니하려거든 비판하지 말라.”라고 예수님께서 말씀하신다. 만일 당신이 비판한다면 당신이 비판한 것처럼 틀림없이 당신이 비판을 받게 될 것이다. 우리들 중 누가 하나님 앞에 서서 “나의 하나님, 제가 동료들을 비판한 것처럼 저를 심판하시옵소서”라고 감히 말하겠는가? 우리는 우리 동료들을 죄인들로 비판했다. 만일 하나님께서 우리를 그와 같이 심판하신다면 우리는 지옥에 있을 것이다. 하나님께서는 예수 그리스도의 경탄할 만한 속죄를 통해서 우리를 심판하신다.

 

오, 바람처럼 활기차게 하며, 깨닫게 하며, 자유롭게 하며,

영감을 주는 성령님의 만져주심을 원하오며!
