THE “GO” OF UNCONDITIONAL

IDENTIFICATION

“One thing thou lackest…come, take up the cross and

                               Follow Me.”

                                        Mark 10:21

 

The rich young ruler had the master passion to be perfect. When he saw Jesus Christ, he wanted to be like Him. Our Lord never puts personal holiness to the fore when He calls a disciple; He puts absolute annihilation of my right to myself and identification with Himself—a relationship with Himself in which there is no other relationship. Luke 14:26 has nothing to do with salvation or sanctification, but with unconditional identification with Jesus Christ. Very few of us know the absolute “go” of abandonment to Jesus.

“Then Jesus beholding him loved him.” The look of Jesus will mean a heart broken for ever from allegiance to any other person or thing. Has Jesus ever looked at you? The look of Jesus transforms and transfixes. Where you are “soft” with God is where the Lord has looked at you. If you are hard and vindictive, insistent on your own way, certain that the other person is more likely to be in the wrong than you are, it is an indication that there are whole tracts of your nature that have never been transformed by His gaze.

“One thing thou lackest…” The only “good thing” from Jesus Christ’s point of view is union with Himself and nothing in between.

“Sell whatsoever thou hast…” I must reduce myself until I am a mere conscious man, I must fundamentally renounce possessions of all kinds, not to save my soul (only one thing saves a man—absolute reliance upon Jesus Christ)—but in order to follow Jesus. “Come, and follow Me.” And the road is the way He went.

 

Lord, unto Thee do I come, absolutely come. I feel so

entire a sense of need of Thyself that I just wait for

Thee to speak to me, for what can I say to Thee? Let

me lie spread out before Thee even as the desert sand

beneath the sun.

절대적인 일치의 “성공”

“네게 아직도 한 가지 부족한 것이 있으니…와서,

                                십자가를 지고 나를 따르라.”

                           마가복음 10:21

 

이 부유한 젊은 통치자는 완전해지고자 하는 훌륭한 열정을 갖고 있었다. 그가 예수 그리스도를 봤을 때 그는 예수님을 닮고 싶었다. 우리 주님께서 제자를 부르실 때는 결코 개인적인 거룩함을 주요한 것으로 책임 지우지 않으신다. 주님은 내 자신에 대한 나의 권리를 철저하게 포기하고 주님과 하나 되는 것을 책임지게 하신다. 즉, 주님 자신과의 관계를 제외하고는 다른 관계가 존재하지 아니한다는 것을 의미한다. 누가복음 14장 26절 말씀은 구원 또는 성화와는 아무런 관계가 없고 예수 그리스도와 완전한 일치를 이루는 것과 관련이 있다. 예수님에게 자신을 철저하게 성공적으로 내맡긴 사람에 대해 알고 있는 사람은 우리 중에 매우 드물다.

“그때 예수께서 그를 보시고 그를 사랑했다.” 예수님의 바라봄은 어떤 다른 사람 또는 일에 대한 충성으로부터 마음이 영원히 떠나게 하는 결과를 초래할 것이다. 예수님께서 당신을 바라보신 적이 있는가? 예수님의 바라봄은 성질을 완전히 바꿔 고정시키는 효과가 있다. 당신이 하나님과 “다정다감한” 관계를 유지하는 곳은 주님께서 당신을 바라보신 장소다. 만일 당신이 무정하고 복수심이 강하고, 자기주장이 강하고, 당신보다 다른 사람이 잘못할 가능성이 많다고 확신한다면, 그것은 당신 본성의 영역 전체가 주님의 바라봄을 통해 한 번도 바꿔진 적이 없다는 징후다.

“네게 아직도 한 가지 부족한 것이 있으니…” 예수 그리스도의 관점에서 볼 때 오직 “선한 것”은 사이에 아무것도 끼지 않고 주님 자신과 하나로 일치하는 것이다.

“네게 있는 것을 무엇이든지 다 팔아…” 나의 영혼을 구원하기 위해서가 아니고(사람을 구원하는 것은 오직 한 가지 예수 그리스도에 대한 절대적인 믿음뿐), 예수님을 따르기 위해서, 나는 단지 의식만 남아 있는 사람이 될 때까지 내 자신을 낮춰야 하고, 모든 종류의 소유를 근본적으로 포기해야 한다. “와서 나를 따르라.” 그리고 이 방법이 주님께서 걸어가신 길이다.

 

주님, 제가 주님께 완전히 정말로 나아갑니다. 주님 자신이 그토록

철저하게 필요하다는 생각이 들어 주님께서 제게 말씀해주시기를

지금 막 기다리고 있습니다. 제가 주님께 무슨 말씀을 드릴 수

있을까요? 설령 태양 아래 사막의 모래와 같을지라도 주님 앞에

큰 대자로 제가 드러눕게 하시옵소서.
