THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE CALL

“For necessity is laid upon me: yea, woe is unto me if I

                              preach not the gospel!”

                                              1 Corinthians 9:16

 

We are apt to forget the mystical, supernatural touch of God. If you can tell where you got the call of God and all about it, I question whether you have ever had a call. The call of God does not come like that, it is much more supernatural. The realization of it in a man’s life may come with a sudden thunder-clap or with a gradual dawning, but in whatever way it comes, it comes with the undercurrent of the supernatural, something that cannot be put into words; it is always accompanied with a glow. At any moment there may break the sudden consciousness of this incalculable, supernatural, surprising call that has taken hold of your life—“I have chosen you.” The call of God has nothing to do with salvation and sanctification. It is not because you are sanctified that you are therefore called to preach the gospel; the call to preach the gospel is infinitely different. Paul describes it as a necessity laid upon him.

If you have been obliterating the great supernatural call of God in your life, take a review of your circumstances and see where God has not been first, but your ideas of service, or your temperamental abilities. Paul said—“Woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!” He had realized call of God, and there was no competitor for his strength.

If a man or woman is called of God, it does not matter how untoward circumstances are, every force that has been at work will tell for God’s purpose in the end. If you agree with God’s purpose He will bring not only your conscious life, but all the deeper regions of your life which you cannot get at, into harmony.

 

May the power and tone and health of God be all-

pervading this day. How I long for Thy generous-

heartedness to be realized in and through all things!

Keep the sense of Thy call in me fresh and vivid.

소명 의식

“내가 부득불 할 일임이라 내가 만일 복음을 전하지

                                 아니하면 내게 화가 있을 것이로다.”

                             고린도전서 9:16

 

우리는 신비적이고 초자연적인 하나님의 만짐을 잊기 쉽다. 당신이 하나님의 부르심과 그것에 관한 모든 것을 받은 장소를 말할 수 있다면 나는 당신이 어떻든 소명을 가졌는지 안 가졌는지 질문한다. 하나님의 부르심은 그런 식으로 임하지 않는다. 그 부르심은 훨씬 더 초자연적이다. 어떤 사람의 생애에서 그 부르심에 대한 깨달음은 갑작스런 우레 소리와 더불어 임하거나 점점 알게 되는 식으로 임한다. 그러나 어떠한 형태로 임하든 말로는 표현할 수 없는 초자연적인 무엇인가가 표면에 나타나지 않는 방식으로 임한다. 그 부르심은 항상 몸이 달아오르는 희열과 함께 임한다. 헤아릴 수 없고 초자연적이며 깜짝 놀랄 만한 부르심을 어느 순간에 갑자기 의식하게 되는 일이 발생하여 “내가 너를 선택했다.”라는 주님의 말씀에 의한 부르심으로 당신의 삶을 꽉 붙잡았다. 하나님의 부르심은 구원 및 성화와는 전혀 관계가 없다. 그러므로 당신이 복음을 전하도록 부르심을 받는 것은 당신이 성화되었기 때문이 아니다. 복음을 전하라는 부르심은 크게 다르다. 바울은 그 소명을 자신에게 부여되어 피할 수 없는 당연한 사명이라고 설명한다.

당신이 만일 하나님으로부터 부여 받은 위대하고 초자연적인 소명을 당신 삶 가운데서 지워오고 있었다면 당신의 환경을 재검토하여 하나님이 첫 번째 순위가 아니고 사역에 관한 당신의 아이디어, 또는 당신의 신경질적인 능력들이었던 장소를 확인하라. “내가 만일 복음을 전하지 아니하면 내게 화가 있다!”라고 바울은 말했다. 그는 하나님의 부르심을 깨달았었고 그의 능력에 대해서는 경쟁자가 없었다.

사람이 하나님의 부르심을 받는 경우에 얼마나 어려운 환경인지는 중요하지 않다. 역사한 모든 힘이 결국 하나님의 목적을 달성할 것이다. 당신이 만일 하나님의 목적에 동의한다면 주님께서는 당신의 의식적 삶뿐만 아니라 당신이 이해할 수 없는 당신 삶의 더 깊은 영역의 모든 것까지를 조화롭게 만드실 것이다.

 

하나님의 능력과 품격과 건강이 오늘 널리 충만하게 하옵소서.

주님의 자비가 범사에 실현되기를 제가 얼마나 갈망하고

있는지요! 주님으로부터 받은 소명 의식이 제 안에서 계속 신선하고

생생하게 살아 움직이게 하옵소서.
