THE COMMISSION OF THE CALL

“Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that

which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for His

                                body’s sake ”

                                    Colossians 1:24

 

We make calls out of our own spiritual consecration, but when we get right with God He brushes all these aside, and rivets us with a pain that is terrific to one thing we never dreamed of, and for one radiant flashing moment we see what He is after, and we say—“Here am I, send me.”

This call has nothing to do with personal sanctification, but with being made broken bread and poured-out wine. God can never make us wine if we object to the fingers He uses to crush us with. If God would only use His own fingers, and make me broken bread and poured-out wine in a special way! But when He uses someone whom we dislike, or some set of circumstances to which we said we would never submit, and makes those the crushers, we object. We must never choose the scene of our own martyrdom. If ever we are going to be made into wine, we will have to be crushed; you cannot drink grapes. Grapes become wine only when they have been squeezed.

I wonder what kind of finger and thumb God has been using to squeeze you, and you have been like a marble and escaped? You are not ripe yet, and if God had squeezed you, the wine would have been remarkably bitter. To be a sacramental personality means that the elements of the natural life are presented by God as they are broken providentially in His service. We have to be adjusted into God before we can be broken bread in His hands. Keep right with God and let Him do what He likes. And you will find that He is producing the kind of bread and wine that will benefit His other children.

 

Today, O Lord, cleanse me from flurried busyness,

and keep me calmly and purely Thine. Make this place

the house of God, and the gate of heaven to men’s

souls.

소명에 의한 위임 사항

“나는 이제 너희를 위하여 받는 괴로움을 기뻐하고

그리스도의 고난 뒤에 남은 것을 그의 몸 된 교회를

                                  위하여 내 육체에 채우노라.”

                           골로새서 1:24

 

우리는 우리 자신의 영적 헌신으로부터 소명들을 만들어낸다. 그러나 우리가 하나님과 올바른 관계를 맺게 될 때 하나님께서 이 모든 것들을 털어내시고 우리가 꿈도 꿔보지 않은 한 가지 일에 무시무시한 고통으로 우리를 고정시키신다. 그런 후 섬광처럼 불빛이 반짝하는 순간에 하나님께서 추구하시는 것이 무엇인지 우리가 보게 되고 “내가 여기 있나이다 나를 보내소서”(사 6:8)라고 우리가 말하게 된다.

이 소명은 개인적인 성화와는 전혀 관계가 없고 떼어진 빵과 부어진 포도주가 되는 것과 관계가 있다. 우리를 눌러 부수기 위해 주님께서 사용하시는 손가락들을 우리가 반대하는 경우에는 하나님께서 우리를 포도주로 만드실 수 없다. 만일 하나님께서 자신의 손가락들만 사용하여 어떤 특별한 방법으로 나를 떼어진 빵과 부어진 포도주로 만드실 것이라면! 그러나 우리가 싫어하는 어떤 사람을, 또는 복종하지 않겠다고 우리가 말한 어떤 환경을 주님께서 사용하여 그것들을 분쇄기로 만드실 때 우리는 반대한다. 우리 자신의 순교 장면을 우리가 결코 선택해서는 안 된다. 만일 우리가 포도주로 만들어질 작정이라면 우리는 분쇄되어야 할 것이다. 당신이 포도를 마실 수는 없다. 포도들이 압착이 되었을 때에만 포도주가 된다.

당신을 압착하기 위해 하나님께서 사용해오고 계시는 손가락과 엄지가 어떤 종류인지 나는 놀랄 뿐이다. 당신이 대리석처럼 차가워 냉혹 무정하여 도망했으므로?  당신은 아직 익지 않았다. 그러므로 만일 하나님께서 당신을 압착했더라면 포도주는 몹시 썼을 것이다. 신성한 인격이 된다는 것은 타고난 삶의 요소들이 주님을 섬기는데 사용되기 위해 섭리에 따라 바숴짐으로써 하나님을 통해 선물로 증정됨을 의미한다. 우리가 주님의 손 안에서 부숴진 빵이 될 수 있기 전에 우리가 하나님의 뜻에 순응해야 한다. 하나님과 올바른 관계를 계속 유지하여 하나님의 뜻대로 하시는 것을 지켜봐라. 그러면 주님의 다른 아이들에게 도움을 줄 빵과 포도주의 종류를 하나님께서 생산하고 계시는 중임을 당신이 알게 될 것이다.

 

오늘, 오 주님, 허둥대는 분주함으로부터 저를 해방시키시어

제가 조용히 그리고 순결하게 주님의 소유가 되어 있게                                

역사하시옵소서. 이곳을 하나님의 집으로 만드시고 사람들의

영혼들로 향하는 하늘의 문을 만드시옵소서.
