GREATER WORKS

“And greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto

                            My Father.”

                                                                                     John 14:12

 

Prayer does not fit us for the greater works; prayer is the greater work. We think of prayer as a common-sense exercise of our higher powers in order to prepare us for God’s work. In the teaching of Jesus Christ prayer is the working of the miracle of Redemption in others by the power of God. The way fruit remains is by prayer, but remember it is prayer based on the agony of Redemption, not on my agony. only a child gets prayer answered; a wise man does not.

Prayer is the battle; it is a matter of indifference where you are. Whichever way God engineers circumstances, the duty is to pray. Never allow the thought—“I am of no use where I am;” because you certainly can be of no use where you are not. Wherever God has dumped you down in circumstances pray, ejaculate to Him all the time. “Whatsoever ye ask in My name, that will I do.” We won’t pray unless we get thrills, that is the intensest form of spiritual selfishness. We have to labour along the line of God’s direction, and He says pray. “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth labourers into His harvest.”

There is nothing thrilling about a laboring man’s work, but it is the labouring man who makes the conceptions of the genius possible; and it is the laboring saint who makes the conceptions of his Master possible. You labour at prayer and results happen all the time from His standpoint. What an astonishment it will be to find, when the veil is lifted, the souls that have been reaped by you, simply because you had been in the habit of taking your orders from Jesus Christ.

 

Lord, be manifest in our midst today, give us the

great objective certainty of Thy presence.

“또한 그보다 큰 일도 하리니 이는 내가 아버지께로 감이라.”

                                            요한복음 14:12

 

기도가 우리를 더 큰 일들에 맞추는 것이 아니다. 기도가 더 큰 일이다. 우리는 기도를 하나님의 사역에 우리를 준비시키기 위해 우리의 더 높은 능력을 상식에 맞게 행사하는 것으로 생각한다. 예수 그리스도의 가르침에 있어서 기도는 내 안에서 구속의 기적이 역사하심으로써 하나님의 능력을 통해 다른 사람들 안에서 구속의 기적을 생산함을 의미한다. 열매가 남아 있는 방법은 기도를 통해서다. 그러나 그것은 나의 고통이 아닌 예수 그리스도의 고통을 근거로 하는 기도임을 기억하라. 어린이만이 기도 응답을 받는다. 지혜로운 사람은 기도 응답을 받지 못한다.

기도는 전투다. 당신이 어느 곳에 있는지는 사소한 일이다. 하나님께서 환경을 어떤 방법으로 능숙하게 처리하시든 기도하는 것은 의무다. “나는 내가 있는 곳에서 아무 쓸모가 없다”고 절대로 생각하지 말라. 왜냐하면 당신이 존재하지 않는 곳에서는 틀림없이 당신이 쓸모가 있을 수가 없는 것이기 때문이다. 하나님께서 당신을 어떠한 환경에 내려놓을지라도 기도하라. 항상 하나님께 부르짖으라. “너희가 내 이름으로 무엇을 구하든지 내가 그것을 시행하리라.” 우리가 감동을 받지 못하면 기도하지 않으려고 하는 것이 영적 이기심이 가장 강렬하게 나타나는 형태다. 우리는 하나님의 명령에 따라 일해야 한다. 그런데 하나님께서는 기도하라고 말씀하신다. “그러므로 추수하는 주인에게 청하여 추수할 일꾼들을 보내 주소서 하라.”

일하고 있는 사람의 일에는 설렐만한 것이 아무것도 없다. 그러나 천재의 상상들을 가능하게 만드는 사람은 일꾼이다. 그의 주인의 상상들을 가능하게 만드는 사람은 일하는 성도다. 당신은 기도로 일하고 결과들은 항상 주인의 관점으로 나타난다. 다만 당신이 예수 그리스도로부터 명령을 받는 습관에 있었기 때문에, 베일이 벗겨질 때, 당신이 거두어들인 영혼들을 발견한다는 것은 놀라운 일이 될 것이다.

 

주님, 오늘 우리 가운데 임재하옵소서. 주님의 임재가

틀림없는 사실임을 아주 객관적으로 보여주시옵소서.
