THE KEY TO THE

MASTER’S ORDERS

“Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send

                                           forth labourers into His harvest.”

                                                                                                  Matthew 9:38

 

The key to the missionary problem is in the hand of God, and that key is prayer not work, that is, not work as the word is popularly understood to-day because that may mean the evasion of concentration on God. The key to the missionary problem is not the key of common sense, nor the medical key, nor the key of civilization or education or even evangelization. The key is prayer. “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest.” Naturally, prayer is not practical, it is absurd; we have to realize that prayer is stupid from the ordinary common-sense point of view.

There are no nations in Jesus Christ’s outlook, but the world. How many of us pray without respect of persons, and with respect to only one Person, Jesus Christ? He owns the harvest that is produced by distress and conviction of sin, and this is the harvest we have to pray that labourers may be thrust out to reap. We are taken up with active work while people all round are ripe to harvest, and we do not reap one of them, but waste our Lord’s time in over-energized activities. Suppose the crisis comes in your father’s life, in your brother’s life, are you there as a labourer to reap the harvest for Jesus Christ? “Oh, but I have a special work to do!” No Christian has a special work to do. A Christian is called to be Jesus Christ’s own, one who is not above his Master, one who does not dictate to Jesus Christ what he intends to do. Our Lord calls to no special work: He calls to Himself. “Pray ye therefore the Lord of harvest,” and He will engineer circumstances and thrust you out.

 

Lord, bless this day with great evidence of Thy

thoughts to us-ward. I praise Thee for Thy word this

morning—“For I know the thoughts that I think

towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and

not of evil.”

 주인의 명령에 관한 열쇠

“그러므로 추수하는 주인에게 청하여 추수할

                               일꾼들을 보내주소서 하라 하시니라.”

                                      마태복음 9:38

 

선교사 문제에 대한 열쇠는 하나님의 손 안에 있다. 그 열쇠는 사역이 아니고 기도다. 다시 말하면, 오늘날 널리 이해되는 단어의 용법에 의하면 사역은 하나님에 대한 집중으로부터의 도피 수단이 될 수도 있기 때문에 그런 의미로 사용되는 사역은 열쇠가 될 수 없다는 것을 의미한다. 선교사 문제에 대한 열쇠는 상식, 의료에 관한, 문명 또는 교육 또는 심지어 복음전도에 관한 열쇠가 아니다. 이 열쇠는 기도다. “그러므로 추수하는 주인에게 청하라.” 당연히 기도는 실용적인 것이 아니다. 기도는 불합리한 것이다. 기도는 보통 상식의 관점에서 보면 어리석은 것이라는 걸 우리가 깨달아야 한다.

예수 그리스도의 견지에서는 민족들이 아니고 이 세상이 존재한다. 우리들 중 얼마나 많은 사람이 사람들을 무시하고 오직 한 사람 예수 그리스도에 관해서만 기도하는가? 예수 그리스도께서는 고통과 죄의 자각을 통해서 생산되는 수확을 소유하신다. 이것은 곡물을 거두어들이기 위해 일꾼들이 투입되도록 우리가 기도해야 하는 수확인 것이다. 주위에 있는 사람들이 익어 수확기가 되었는데 우리는 활동적인 사역에 흥미를 가지고 있다. 그러므로 그들 중 하나도 우리가 거두어들이지 않고 지나치게 정력이 투입된 활동들에서 우리 주님의 시간을 낭비한다. 당신 아버지의 삶에, 당신 형제의 삶에 위기가 온다고 가정해보라. 당신이 예수 그리스도를 위한 수확을 거두어들이기 위한 일꾼으로서 거기 있는가? “오, 그렇지만 나에게는 특별히 할 일이 있습니다!” 특별히 할 일이 있는 그리스도인은 없다. 그리스도인은 예수 그리스도의 소유로 부름 받았기에 자기 주인보다 높지 않은 자이고, 자신이 하려고 생각하는 것을 예수 그리스도에게 명령하지 못하는 자이다. 우리 주님께서는 특별한 사역으로 부르지 아니하신다. 주님은 자기 자신에게 오라고 부르신다. “그러므로 너희는 수확하는 주님께 기도하라,” 그러면 주님께서 상황을 능숙하게 처리하여 당신을 내쫓을 것이다.

 

주님, 우리를 향하신 당신의 사상에 관한 위대한 증거로

오늘을 축복하시옵소서. “너희를 위해 내가 생각하는 것은 악에

관한 것이 아니라 평강에 관한 것임을 내가 알고 있기 때문이라고

주님께서 말씀하신다.”라는 당신의 말씀으로 인해 오늘

아침 주님을 찬양합니다.
