AMID A CROWD OF PALTRY THINGS

“. . . in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses.”

2 Corinthians 6:4

 

It takes Almighty grace to take the next step when there is no vision and no spectator-the next step in devotion, the next step in your study, in your reading, in your kitchen; the next step in your duty, when there is no vision from God, no enthusiasm and no spectator. It takes far more of the grace of God, far more conscious drawing upon God to take that step, than it does to preach the Gospel.

Every Christian has to partake of what was the essence of the Incarnation, he must bring the thing down into flesh and blood actualities and work it out through the finger tips. We flag when there is no vision, no uplift, but just the common round, the trivial task. The thing that tells in the long run for God and for men is the steady persevering work in the unseen, and the only way to keep the life uncrushed is to live looking to God. Ask God to keep the eyes of your spirit open to the Risen Christ, and it will be impossible for drudgery to damp you. Continually get away from pettiness and paltriness of mind and thought out into the thirteenth chapter of St. John’s Gospel.

  

    O Lord, save us from the murmuring spirit which with the

majority of us is merely skin-deep, but it is harmful, hurting

the bloom of spiritual communion.

보잘것없는 일들을 하고 있는 군중 한복판에

“…많이 견디는 것과 환난과 궁핍과 고난 가운데서.”

고린도후서 6:4

 

비전도 없고 보아주는 사람도 없을 때 헌신, 당신의 연구, 당신의 독서, 당신의 주방 일에 있어서 다음 단계로 나아가기 위해서는 전능자의 은총이 필요합니다. 하나님으로부터 오는 비전도 열정도 보아주는 사람도 없을 때 당신 의무의 다음 단계를 수행하기 위해서는 전능자의 은총이 필요한 것입니다. 그러한 다음 단계를 수행하기 위해서는 복음을 전파할 때보다도 하나님의 은총이 훨씬 더 많이 필요하고 하나님을 향해서 다가가는 의식적인 노력이 훨씬 더 요청되는 것입니다.

모든 크리스천은 하나님께서 성육신으로 오셔서 우리 가운데 거하시는 예수님의 본질에 속하는 것을 함께 나누어야 합니다[역주: 함께 먹고 함께 마시고 성공과 기쁨과 아픔과 책임을 함께하는 사랑의 공동체 건설을 위한 유효한 수단으로서 하나님의 뜻과 일치하는 지침으로 이해됨]. 예수님께서 가르치신 본질적인 내용을 육신에 속하는 현실 속으로 가지고 들어와 손가락 끝을 사용하여 실제 행동으로 실천함으로써 효력을 발생하도록 해야 합니다. 비전도 없고 좋아진 것도 없고 오직 평범한 것, 시시한 일만 있을 때 우리는 사람을 멀리합니다. 하나님과 사람들을 위해서 결국 좋은 것으로 판명되는 것은 보이지 않는 가운데서 꾸준히 참을성 있게 하는 일입니다. 의지가 꺾이지 않게 생명을 보존하는 유일한 방법은 하나님을 바라보면서 사는 것입니다. 부활 승천하신 그리스도를 향해 당신 영의 눈들이 항상 열린 상태로 있게 해달라고 하나님에게 부탁하십시오. 그리하면 지루하고 따분한 고된 일이 당신의 기력을 꺾어놓을 수는 없을 것입니다. 마음과 생각 속에 있는 사소하고 보잘것없는 일상으로부터 끊임없이 빠져 나와 요한복음 13장 말씀을 묵상하십시오.

 

       오오 주님, 영적 교감의 발랄함을 망쳐 우리 대다수를 단지 얄팍하게  만들고

      해롭기만 할 뿐인 투덜투덜 불평하는 영으로부터 구해주시옵소서.
