DON’T CALCULATE WITHOUT GOD

“Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He

                               shall bring it to pass.”

                                                                                                             Psalm 37: 5

 

Don’t calculate without God.

God seems to have a delightful way of upsetting the things we have calculated on without taking Him into account. We get into calculating without God; He has not entered in as a living factor. The one thing that keeps us from the possibility of worrying is bringing God in as the greatest factor in all our calculations.

In our religion it is customary to put God first, but we are apt to think it is circumstances which were not chosen by God, and suddenly we find we have been an impertinence to put Him first in the practical issues of our lives. If we imagine we have to put on our Sunday moods before we come near to God, we will never come near Him. We must come as we are.

Don’t calculate with the evil in view.

Does God really mean us to take no account of the evil? “Love . . . taketh no account of the evil.” Love is not ignorant of the existence of the evil, but it does not take it in as a calculating factor. Apart from God, we do reckon with evil; we calculate with it in view and work all our reasonings from that standpoint.

Don’t calculate with the rainy day in view.

You cannot lay up for a rainy day if you are trusting Jesus Christ. Jesus said—“Let not your heart be troubled.” God will not keep your heart from being troubled. It is a command—“Let not . . .” Haul yourself up a hundred and one times a day in order to do it, until you get into the habit of putting God first and calculating with Him in view.

 

“If ye shall ask Me anything in My Name, that will I

do.” It is all so mysterious, O Lord, and all so

simple—I pray, and believe that Thou dost create

something in answer to and by the very means of my

prayer, that was not in existence before.

하나님을 제쳐놓고 예측하지 말라

“네 길을 여호와께 맡기라 그를 의지하면 그가

                                이루시리라.”

                               시편 37:5

 

하나님을 제쳐놓고 예측하지 말라.

하나님을 고려하지 않고 우리가 예측한 일들을 망쳐놓는 유쾌한 방법을 하나님께서는 갖고 계신 것 같다. 하나님에 의해서 선택되지 않은 상황 속으로 우리가 들어간다. 그리고 하나님을 제쳐놓고 예측해왔음을 갑자기 우리가 깨닫게 된다. 하나님께서 살아 있는 요인으로 들어오지 아니하셨다. 걱정할 가능성으로부터 우리를 막는 한 가지는 모든 우리의 예측들에 있어서 가장 큰 요인으로 하나님을 모셔 들이는 것이다.

우리의 신앙생활에서 하나님을 첫째로 모시는 것은 관례이다. 그러나 우리들 삶의 실제적인 쟁점들에 있어서 하나님을 첫째로 모시는 것은 불합리라고 우리가 생각하기 쉽다. 만일 우리가 하나님께 가까이 나아가기 전에 일요일 기분인 듯이 꾸며야 한다고 우리가 생각한다면 우리가 하나님 가까이 나아가지 아니할 것이다. 우리는 있는 모습 그대로 나아가야 한다.

악을 예상하여 예측하지 말라.

하나님께서는 정말로 우리가 악을 고려하지 않게 하실 작정이신가? “사랑은…악한 것을 생각하지 아니한다.”(고전 13:5) 사랑이 악의 존재를 모르는 것이 아니다. 그러나 사랑은 악의 존재를 예측요소로 받아들이지 아니한다. 하나님과 별도로 하여, 우리는 악을 고려에 넣는다. 우리는 악을 예상해서 예측하고 그 관점으로부터 우리의 모든 추론의 과정을 실행한다.

만약의 경우를 예상하여 예측하지 말라.

만일 당신이 예수 그리스도를 신뢰하고 있다면 만약의 경우를 대비해 진로를 잡을 수 없다. “너희는 마음에 근심하지 말라”(요 14:1)고 예수님께서 말씀하셨다. “…하지 말라”는 명령이다. 이 명령을 지키기 위해 당신이 하나님을 첫째로 모시고 하나님을 예상하여 예측하는 습관이 들 때까지 하루에 백 번씩 당신 자신의 언행을 점검하라.

 

“너희가 나의 이름으로 무엇이든지 구하면 내가 실행하겠다.”

오 주님, ‘제가 기도하고, 그리고 바로 나의 기도라는 수단을 통해서

그 기도에 응답하여 주님께서 전에 존재하지 않았던 무엇인가를

창조하신다는 것을 믿는다’는 것은 모두 몹시 신비롭고 또한

모두 매우 간단합니다.
