THE BIAS OF DEGENERATION

“Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and

death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all

                            have sinned.”

                                        Romans 5:12

 

The bible does not say that God punished the human race for one man’s sin; but that the disposition of sin, viz., my claim to my right to myself, entered into the human race by one man, and that another Man took on Him the sin of the human race and put it away (Heb. 9:26)—an infinitely profounder revelation. The disposition of sin is not immorality and wrong-doing, but the disposition of self-realization—I am my own god. This disposition may work out in decorous morality or in indecorous immorality, but it has the one basis, my claim to my right to myself. When our Lord faced men with all the forces of evil in them, and men who were clean living and moral upright, He did not pay any attention to the moral degradation of the one or to the moral attainment of the other; He looked at something we do not see, viz., the disposition.

Sin is a thing I am born with and I cannot touch it; God touches sin in Redemption. In the Cross of Jesus Christ God redeemed the whole human race from the possibility of damnation through the heredity of sin. God nowhere holds a man responsible for having the heredity of sin. The condemnation is not that I am born with a heredity of sin, but if when I realize Jesus Christ came to deliver me from it, I refuse to let Him do so, from that moment I begin to get the seal of damnation. “And this is the judgment” (the critical moment), “that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light.”

 

Lord, today give me the intuitive, instinctive

inspiration of Thy Holy Spirit that I may discern Thee

in all things. Fill the whole day with Thy gracious

presence and peace.

타락에 대한 선입관

“그러므로 한 사람으로 말미암아 죄가 세상에 들어오고 죄로

                              말미암아 사망이 들어왔나니 이와 같이 모든 사람이 죄를

                              지었으므로 사망이 모든 사람에게 이르렀느니라.”

                                    로마서 5:12

 

성경은 하나님께서 한 사람의 죄로 인해서 인류를 벌하셨다고 말하지 않는다. 그러나 죄에 대한 성향, 다시 말하면, 한 사람을 통해서 자기 자신에 대한 권리를 자기가 주장하는 습성이 인류 안에 접어 들었다. 그런데 다른 또 한 사람이 인류의 죄를 짊어지고 그걸 없애 버렸다 (히9:26)— 이건 크게 더 심오한 계시다. 죄에 대한 성향은 부도덕과 범죄가 아니고, 내가 내 자신의 신이라고 생각하는 바 자아 실현에 대한 성향이다. 이 성향은 품위 있는 도덕성 또는 품위 없는 부도덕으로 효력이 나타날 수 있으나 자신에 대한 권리 주장을 기초로 한다. 우리 주님께서는 악의 모든 세력들을 가진 사람들, 그리고 깨끗하고 도덕적이며 고결한 삶을 사는 사람들을 만났을 때 한 사람의 도덕적 타락 또는 다른 사람의 도덕적 성취에 조금도 신경 쓰지 않으셨다. 주님께서는 우리가 보지 못하는 무엇인가에, 다시 말하면, 이 성향에 주목하셨다.

죄는 내가 가지고 태어나는 것이며 나는 그걸 해칠 수 없다. 하나님께서 구속 을 통해 죄를 다루신다. 유전으로 상속된 죄로 말미암아 저주를 받을 가능성으로부터 인류를 예수 그리스도의 십자가 안에서 하나님께서 구속하셨다. 하나님께서는 유전으로 상속 받은 죄를 갖고 있는데 대해서 사람에게 책임을 묻지 않으신다. 정죄는 내가 유전으로 죄를 지니고 태어난 것이 아니고, 만일 내가 예수 그리스도께서 죄로부터 나를 구원하시려고 오셨다는 것을 내가 깨달았을 때 내가 주님께서 구원하시도록 허용하지 않는 것이 정죄인 것이며, 그 순간부터 나는 정죄의 도장을 받기 시작한다. “그 정죄는 이것이니” (위기의 결정적 순간), “곧 빛이 세상에 왔으되 사람들이 빛보다 어둠을 더 사랑한 것이니라”(요 3:19).

 

주님, 오늘 성령님의 직관적이고 본능적인 영감을 제게 주시어

범사에서 주님을 알아볼 수 있게 하옵소서. 온 종일 주님의

은혜로운 임재와 평강으로 충만케 하옵소서.
