THE MASTER ASSIZES

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.”

2 Corinthians 5:10

 

Paul says that we must all, preacher and people alike, “appear before the judgment seat of Christ.” If you learn to live in the white light of Christ here and now, judgment finally will cause you to delight in the work of God in you. Keep yourself steadily faced by the judgment seat of Christ; walk now in the light of the holiest you know. A wrong temper of mind about another soul will end in the spirit of the devil, no matter how saintly you are. one carnal judgment, and the end of it is hell in you. Drag it to the light at once and say—“My God, I have been guilty there.” If you don’t, hardness will come all through. The penalty of sin is confirmation in sin. It is not only God who punishes for sin; sin confirms itself in the sinner and gives back full pay. No struggling nor praying will enable you to stop doing some things, and the penalty of sin is that gradually you get used to it and do not know that it is sin. No power save the incoming of the Holy Ghost can alter the inherent consequences of sin.

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light.” Walking in the light means for many of us walking according to our standard for another person. The deadliest Pharisaism to-day is not hypocrisy, but unconscious unreality

[the modern version: The deadliest attitude of the Pharisees that we exhibit today is not hypocrisy but that which comes from unconsciously living a lie].

 

  O Lord, I do thank Thee for the condition of heart and motive Thy

grace has wrought in me, but, Oh, when in my actual life shall I express

before the world the beauty of Thy peace?

주님의 심판

“이는 우리가 다 반드시 그리스도의 심판대 앞에 나타나게 되어.”

고린도후서 5:10

 

설교자이든 보통 사람들이든 똑같이 우리 모두가 “그리스도의 심판대 앞에 나타나야” 한다고 바울은 말합니다. 당신이 만일 여기서 지금 그리스도의 빛 가운데 사는 것을 배운다면 심판은 결국 당신으로 하여금 당신 안에서 이루어지는 하나님의 역사하심을 기뻐하는 일이 될 것입니다. 당신 자신이 그리스도의 심판대를 꾸준히 바라보며 사십시오. 당신이 알고 있는 가장 거룩한 자의 빛 가운데 지금 행하십시오. 당신이 아무리 성도인 채 할지라도 다른 영혼에 대한 마음 속의 나쁜 기질은 악마의 영으로 끝나게 될 것입니다. 세속적인 심판, 그리고 그것의 목적은 당신 안에 있는 지옥입니다. 그것을 빛으로 끌고 와서 “나의 하나님, 거기서 제가 죄를 범했습니다.”라고 고백하십시오. 당신이 만일 죄를 고백하지 않는다면 줄곧 내내 단단하게 굳어질 것입니다. 죄의 형벌은 죄의 확증입니다. 죄에 대해서 처벌하시는 분은 하나님일 뿐만 아니라 죄가 죄인 안에서 죄의 사실 그 자체를 확증하여 죄가 굳어지게 함으로써 충분히 앙갚음을 하는 것입니다. 그렇게 되면 발버둥치며 노력하거나 기도한다고 행하고 있던 어떤 것을 멈추는 것이 불가능할 것입니다. 그러므로 당신이 점점 죄에 익숙해져서 그것이 죄라는 것도 모르게 되는 것이 죄의 형벌입니다. 찾아 들어오시는 성령 외에는 죄의 선천적인 결과들을 제거할 수 있는 능력이 없습니다.

“그러나 주님이 빛 가운데 계신 것처럼 우리가 만일 빛 가운데 행하면.” 빛 가운데 행한다는 것이 우리 다수에게는 다른 사람들을 위한 우리 기준에 따라 행한다는 것을 의미합니다. 오늘날 최악의 바리새인주의는 위선이 아니고 느끼지 못하는 비현실성입니다 [수정된 번역 ; 오늘날 우리가 만나는 종교상의 형식주의자들의 태도 중에서 위선이 최악의 문제가 아니라 실재하지 않는 거짓의 삶을 살고 있음을 그들이 스스로 의식하지도 못하는 것이 문제인 것입니다.].

 

   오오 주님, 주님의 은총으로 제 안에 조성된 마음과 동기의 건강 상태에

대해 진심으로 감사 드립니다. 그러나 제 실생활에서 주님께서 주시는

평화의 아름다움을 제가 세상 앞에 나타낼 수 있는 때가 언제일까요?
